Hicks steps down as Blue Dons’ head coach

WEIRTON — Darrin Hicks stepped down as the Madonna head football coach on Monday.

Hicks will remain with the high school and be taking on additional administration duties. He also stated that he wants to spend more time with his young daughter.

Hicks spent four seasons as Madonna’s grid boss. He went 20-21-1, including postseason action. The Blue Dons were 6-3-1 during the regular season last year and were the 16th seed in the Class A playoffs, falling to top-seeded Doddridge County in the opening round.

The Blue Dons will be taking applications through Feb. 18. Interested candidates can apply by sending their resume and cover letter to Athletic Director Michael Arlia at michaelarlia@yahoo.com.
