Central girls snap long losing skid

SALINEVILLE — Eight players dented the scoring column Saturday, as Catholic Central snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 50-22 road victory at Southern Local.

Katie Zatta paced the Crusaders (2-7) with 18 points. Ellen Rhode tallied eight to go along with 10 rebounds and two blocks. Morgan Green contributed seven points. She also was charted with four steals and four assists.

The Crusaders jumped out to a 14-3 lead after the opening quarter and were up 30-6 at the intermission. Zatta netted 11 of her game-high total during the first half. Central was a perfect nine for nine from the charity stripe.

Ashley Shroades led the Indians with 12 points.

Central is scheduled to visit Buckeye Local Monday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Toronto 73, Beallsville 61

TORONTO — Brant Reeves scored a game-high 21 points, while Blake Close and Shane Keenan evenly divided 28, as the Toronto boys basketball bested Bridgeport, 73-61, on Saturday.

“This was a total team win from the starters all the way to the bench guys,” head coach Sean Tucker said. “Our bench played a huge part in this game. When we subbed, we never lost intensity. The guys that came in kept that same intensity throughout, and that’s something that we have preached all week. Great things happen when we come together and play as one.”

The Red Knights tentatively travels to Beallsville on Tuesday.

Vince Carapellotti led the Crusaders with 13 points. Charles Miller scored a dozen, and Ryan Gorman added eight.

Central tentatively travels to Edison on Monday.
