Brooke erases eight-run deficit, wins in extras

WELLSBURG — Trailing by eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning Saturday, the Brooke softball team rallied for a 13-12 victory over Linsly.

Maddie Brown, who finished with two doubles and four RBIs for the Bruins (13-2), hit a walk-off, two-out run-scoring two-bagger. In the seventh, Angelina Lippoli (singled, two doubles, two RBIs) tied it with a two-out RBI double.

Maleaha Misch picked up the victory after starting and coming back in relief. Misch, who struck out nine and walked four, was replaced by Lexi Foresha (five walks, no punch outs) and relieved her late.

Bailiegh Burwell took the loss for the Cadets. She struck out 11 and walked five.

At the plate, Misch tallied a single, triple and two RBIs. Baylei Jones had a double and brought home three runs. Foresha added a single and an RBI.

Brooke tentatively hosts John Marshall at 6 p.m. Monday.

BASEBALL

Madonna splits with Wheeling Central

WEIRTON — The Madonna baseball squad defeated Wheeling Central, 9-6, then fell, 9-8, during a doubleheader on Saturday.

Tyler Starvaggi picked up the win in Game 1. He allowed five runs (one earned) on two hits, six walks and struck out 10 in five innings. Matt Amaismeier tossed the final two frames for the save.

At the dish, Amaismeier recorded two singles, a double and two RBIs. Luke Amaismeier had a double and drove home three. Starvaggi collected a pair of base knocks and an RBI. Lucky Pulice single and drove home a run, while Colton Littleton singled twice.

In Game 2, Parker Haney took the loss for the Blue Dons. In six innings, he allowed seven runs on 10 hits, three walks and struck out none. Matt Amaismeier tossed the final frame.

Offensively, Mason Thompson produced two singles, a double and two RBIs. Ethan Rowing had a two-bagger and drove home a run. Pulice also doubled, while Matt Amaismeier had a single and one RBI.
