Connelly’s solid start not enough for Edison

BELMONT — Despite a strong start from Blake Connelly, the Edison baseball team fell to Union Local, 3-2, on Friday.

Connelly went the distance, allowing no earned runs on four hits, one walk and struck out four.

At the plate, Matt Parsons delivered a single and a run batted in. Ian McBane tallied the Wildcats’ other base hit, while Gage Cline drove home one.

SOFTBALL

Harrison Central 10,

Toronto 0

The Harrison Central softball team took care of Toronto, 10-0, in five innings on Friday.

Tristen Kovarik started for the Huskies and picked up the complete-game victory. She allowed two hits and struck out seven.

Offensively, Kovarik doubled. Maddy Butler singled twice and drove home one run. Sarah Touville and Danyel Beadling each singled.

For the Red Knights, Riley Kinsey suffered the defeat, while punching out three batters. Abby Liddick and Callie Anderson tallied the team’s lone hits with singles.

OVAC tournament

WHEELING — The Martins Ferry softball squad defeated Monroe Central, 12-5, for the Class 3A title on Friday.

The contest was pushed back to a 6 p.m. start due to inclement weather. The regularly-scheduled 7 p.m. contest between University and Morgantown for the Class 5A title has been rescheduled for today (Saturday).
