Big Red wins two matches in OVAC consolation pool play

STEUBENVILLE — Big Red hosted an OVAC volleyball consolation pool tri on Wednesday, and coach Kristin Taylor’s club won both of its games.

Big Red topped Buckeye Local, 25-18, 25-19, in the opener, then took down Wheeling Park 25-16, 29-27, in the nightcap for a sweep of the night.

In between, the Patriots and Panthers battled for three sets, with Park taking a 2-1 win.

On the night, Big Red’s Maggi Cucarese tallied 18 points, four aces, four kills, 45 assists and three digs, Tori Mitchell 20 points, two aces, 19 kills, 10 blocks and two digs, Julia Arlesic 16 points, three aces and seven digs, Mea Lulla 14 points and 19 digs and Kiera O’Brien 18 points, an ace and 12 kills.

Big Red will look to carry the momentum into the tournament where it will face Dover next Wednesday.

Huskies sweep Toronto

CADIZ — The Harrison Central volleyball team swept Toronto on Wednesday at home, 25-16, 25-20, 25-15.

For the Huskies, McKayla Dunkle led the way with 17 kills and eight blocks, while Logan Johnson had 27 assists, Maddy Butler had 25 digs and 20 points and Danica Rensi 11 points.
