East District volleyball pairings set

The draw for the upcoming East District volleyball tournament was held on Sunday, telling local teams who, when and where of how they will open their tournament runs.

This is the first season of the new seven division format.

In Division III, Big Red is the No. 4 seed and will host No. 5 Zanesville inside the Crimson Center on Oct. 16. The winner of that match moves on to play again on Oct. 21 in the bracket finals.

No. 2 New Philadelphia hosts No. 3 Tri-Valley on Monday, the winner playing No. 1 Dover on Oct. 16.

In Division IV, in the East 1 bracket Harrison Central is the No. 6 seed and will host No. 10 Carrollton on Oct. 15.

The winner moves on to face the winner of No. 3 Beaver Local and No. 14 Philo on Oct. 22.

On the other end of the bracket, Meadowbrook is the top seed and hosts Maysville in the opening round.

In the East 2 bracket, Indian Creek is the No. 9 seed and travels to No. 7 Minerva on Oct. 15. The winner advances to the semis on Oct. 22.

Moving to Division V, Edison is the No. 12 seed and will travel to No. 6 West Muskingum on Monday. The winner advances to test No. 1 seed Union Local on Oct. 16.

In the same bracket, Buckeye Local is the No. 11 seed and waits the winner of No. 4 Fairless and No. 10 Sandy Valley for a match on Oct. 16. Those teams play on Monday and the winner will host the Panthers.

In Division VII, teams head to two locations and play the opening round and district semi in the same night. Both local teams in the Division are in the same East 1 bracket.

Catholic Central is the No. 6 seed and heads to Strasburg where they will take on Bishop Rosecrans in the opening round on Oct. 16, then later that night the winner moves on to face the No. 3 seed Tigers. The winner of that match advances to the district final on Oct. 23.

On the other end of the bracket, Toronto is the No. 10 seed and will take on Bridgeport, the No. 11 seed, in the opening round at Tuscarawas Central. The winner takes on TCC, the top seed, lter in the evening to make up the other half of the district final.
