Brody Saccoccia named Co-DPOY in Division III

Three Big Red players are first-team All-Ohio

COLUMBUS — The list of accomplishments for Brody Saccoccia continues to grow.

The latest for the Big Red senior is being named the Ohio Division III Co-Defensive Player of the Year.

The announcement came Wednesday, when he was one of three players from Steubenville’s 13-1 regional runner-up team to be named first team All-Ohio.

The All-Ohio teams are based on nominations from the seven districts of the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association, which vote on the All-District teams from regular-season accomplishments.

Saccoccia joined fellow senior Ben Burgey and sophomore Landon Crosier in receiving the accolades.

Saccoccia, who is also a state champion wrestler, led the team in tackles for the third consecutive season with 129. He had seven TFLs, picked off three passes and forced two fumbles.

The Purdue University signee for wrestling was the 2024 Div. III Eastern District Defensive Player of the Year and the Div. IV Defensive Player of the Year in 2023.

The 5-11, 165-pound Saccoccia was also Big Red’s leading receiver with 31 receptions for 545 yards and five touchdowns.

He is also a starter on the Big Red baseball team.

Burgey, a 6-2, 245-pounder, was named as an offensive lineman, although he stood out on both sides of the football.

Offensively, he graded out at 94 percent and was a 3-year starter. Defensively, he charted 37 tackles, with five TFLs. He sacked the quarterback three times, recovered two fumbles and forced one.

Crosier, a 5-10, 175, sophomore, recorded 94 tackles, four for minus yardage, had three quarterback sacks, intercepted a pass and returned a fumble for a touchdown.

Earning second-team laurels was Indian Creek record-setting running back Zion McGee.

Steubenville quarterback Aiden Davis was a third-teamer, as were a pair of defensive linemen Ephy Kelly and Noah West.
