Golden Bears walk off the Huskies, 4-3
NEW MANCHESTER — The Oak Glen softball team made it five-straight wins going into next week’s OVAC tournament and did so in thrilling fashion on Friday.
After visiting Harrison Central rallied to tie the game in the top of the seventh, the Golden Bears got the winning run on a sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the seventh for a 4-3 win.
The Golden Bears (21-8) and Huskies (16-6) entered the game as the No. 3 and 4 teams in OVAC Class 4A ahead of the tournament cutoff.
For the Golden Bears, Addie Smith had two hits and two RBIs, while Riley Bruce drove in a run and Heath had two hits to go with her winning RBI.
Mattie Carney struck out eight and did not walk a batter.
For the Huskies, Mikayala Pelegreen hit a two-run homer and Olivia Tonkovich a solo shot, while Bailey Smith had two strikeouts and did not walk a batter.
Both teams will be in action in the OVAC tournament semis on Tuesday.
