Jefferson County Elite squad takes second in Conneaut tourney
CONNEAUT, Ohio — The Jefferson County Elite 19U A baseball squad finished runners-up in the Conneaut Tournament over the weekend.
The locals dropped a 5-2 decision to the Cowle Post 151 Dugout Bruisers 18U in the championship tilt as the winners jumped out to a 3-1 advantage after two frames. Klay Cottis, Clayton Criss and Andrew Kinney evenly divided six singles, with Kinney driving in a run. Alec McBane had a sacrifice fly that produced the other tally.
George Ash was tagged with the loss.
In the semifinals, Jefferson County took down Mill Creek 9-5 by scoring four times in the third and twice in the top of the seventh.
Ash singled and doubled to lead the locals’ eight-hit attack. Anthony Sinicropi had a pair of runs batted in with a double and sacrifice fly. Cottis singled in a run and Criss drove in another with a sacrifice fly. Kinney added a two-run single and Trevor Boggess a run-scoring base hit.
Hunter Rothacker worked the first four frames to earn the win. He fanned five, walked one and allowed four hits.
Jefferson County Elite A 7,
Clinton County Mariners 5 (Saturday)
The locals scored six times in the second and made them stand up as Kinney pitched four scoreless innings in relief. He struck out five and allowed two hits.
Cottis and Kinney also combined for four hits, with Cottis recording a pair of singles that drove in two runs. Kinney had two singles and an RBI. Ash singled in two runs and Criss doubled in another. Sinicropi added an RBI single.
Conneaut 5, Jefferson County
Elite A 3 (Saturday)
The locals recorded 12 base hits — 11 singles and a double — but left 10 runners on base in the loss.
Aaron Ferguson singled twice and doubled while Cottis and Criss each singled three times. Criss drove in a run.
