Jones, Kiger pace Indian Creek girls basketball squad past East Liverpool

WINTERSVILLE — The Indian Creek girls basketball team’s Big 3 paced the squad to a decisive 68-22 victory over East Liverpool on Thursday.

Kylie Kiger produced a game-high 21 points and eight assists. Taylor Jones nearly had a triple-double, finishing with 20 points, 14 rebounds and eight steals. Makenzie Taylor, who missed most of the Redskins’ season opener after sustaining concussion-like symptons, tallied 11 points. Also for Creek, Hailey Clark added eight points and 10 steals.

Assistant Ron Tweedy led the Redskins, as head coach Steve Eft is in quarantine due to COVID-related issues.

For the Potters, Mikayla Reed collected 10 points. Alessandra Ferrazzano and Gabrielle Green each scored four.

Creek (2-0) travels to Shadyside on Saturday.

The Redskins also won the jayvee game, 50-28. Maddie Ballato led Creek with 12 points. East Liverpool’s Kenzie Walker had nine.

Steubenville 54, Cambridge 41

CAMBRIDGE — Makayla Abram’s 22-point effort lifted the Big Red girls basketball team to a 54-41 victory over Cambridge on Thursday.

Also for Big Red (2-0), Lexi Martin had 11 points, Kylie Maxwell nine and Aubrey Thompson eight.

For Cambridge, McKinzi Lingott led with 11.

Steubenville will participate in its home opener at 1:30 p.m. Saturday against Tuscarawas Valley.

Buckeye Local 51, Edison 47

CONNORVILLE — The Buckeye Local girls basketball team fought back from a third-quarter deficit to defeat Edison, 51-47, on Thursday.

The Panthers led, 26-19, at halftime before trailing by two entering the final frame.

Emily Valuska led Buckeye Local (1-2) with 10 points. Megan Valuska had nine points, while Demetria Christian added eight.

For Edison (0-3), Savanna Ankrom led all scorers with 15 points. Alysea Fiedorczyk produced 13 points and Olivia Huff six.

Buckeye Local travels to Toronto for a noon contest Saturday.

East Liverpool on pause

EAST LIVERPOOL — Due to a positive COVID-19 case on the team, the East Liverpool high school boys basketball program is shut down until Dec. 14, East Liverpool Schools superintendent Jonathan Ludwig confirmed on Thursday.

Today’s East Liverpool at Beaver Local and Tuesday’s New Philadelphia at East Liverpool have been postponed.

East Liverpool’s next scheduled game is Dec. 15 at Indian Creek.

All other East Liverpool athletic programs are unaffected.
