Another night, another Big Red wrestling victory

LOCKING UP — Steubenville’s Anthony Hill locks up with Martins Ferry’s Jonathan Rossano during a 126-pound match Thursday.

STEUBENVILLE — It was another day, another dual and another win for the Steubenville wrestling team, as Big Red extended its undefeated mark to 13-0 with a 60-18 win over visiting Martins Ferry Thursday night at the Crimson Center.

Big Red took nine of the first 10 matches by six points in its latest victory, putting the Purple Riders away early. Cal Beadling got Steubenville rolling with a quick pin at 106 pounds. Anthony Shevlin (113) followed with a forfeit win, while Anthony Hill (126), Kaiden Minella (132), Savier Faulks, Cole Antil (145), Tyler Muldrew (152) and Aaron Ferguson (160) all pinned their opponents. Ethan Pappas was awarded a forfeit at 170. The run put Big Red ahead, 54-6. Nate King (195) would later register a pin for Steubenville.

Martin Ferry’s Domenick Tedeschi came out on top in a hard-fought battle over Logan Hale at 120, scoring late for a 6-3 decision. At 182, Kameron Hughes stopped Brandon Kinney’s season-long winning streak by a score of 6-3. Hughes, who is ranked No. 4 in the state at Division III 182 pounds, came down to wrestle the previously unbeaten Steubenville junior.

Fellow state-ranked Purple Rider Zak Dobson (No. 14 at 220) earned a pin over Big Red’s Spencer Ostovich. Zeke Bruney also earned a win at heavyweight for Martins Ferry.

As for Big Red, eight of their wrestlers are ranked in the Top 25 in their respective weight classes. Pappas, an Edinboro University commit, holds the highest ranking at third. Ferguson, who remains undefeated this season, is fourth. Muldrew and Kinney are ninth. Beadling is 18th and Shevin is 24th.

Steubenville will return to the mat Wednesday against Sheridan at the Crimson Center.
