Creek bounces back, tops Harrison Central
CADIZ — Another solid pitching performance from Aiden Fernandez lifted the Indian Creek baseball team to a 6-2 victory over Harrison Central on Wednesday.
Fernandez went the distance, allowing two runs on five hits, two walks and struck out 11.
Isaiah Vandine produced a double and three RBIs. Nikolai Gryskevich had a single and a double. David Ferroni also doubled, while Aiden Orr and Cam Franke singled.
The Redskins scored four times in the top of the sixth following a 2-0 deficit and two more in the seventh.
For the Huskies, Caleb Blawut took the loss in six innings on the mound, walking two and punching out four. Race Rutter pitched the final frame.
At the plate, Treston Nemeth tripled and tallied an RBI. Kobe Mitchell, Skylar Mazeroski and Trevor Carman singled.
The two will tentatively meet again Friday in Mingo Junction.
Linsly 3, Weir High 1
WHEELING — A seventh-inning comeback bid fell short during the Weir High baseball squad’s 3-1 defeat to Linsly on Wednesday.
Anthony DiMatteis went the distance but took the loss. He allowed six hits, walked none and struck out three.
Offensively, Trenton Taflon had two singles, while Grant Wilharn had a base knock and an RBI.
The Red Riders tentatively welcome John Marshall today for their home opener.
Harrison Central 6, Indian Creek 2
CADIZ — The Harrison Central softball team rode a five-run first inning to a 6-2 win over Indian Creek on Wednesday.
Tristen Kovarik earned the complete-game victory, allowing two runs on seven hits, one walk and struck out three. Carley Jo Penner also went the distance but took the defeat. She allowed two earned runs on four hits, five walks and punched out five.
At the dish for the Huskies, Lizzy Clelland tripled and drove home a run. Britton Positano had a double and an RBI. Sarah Touville produced a single and a run batted in.
For the Redskins, Maddy Ely singled twice. Emily Buchanan had a single and an RBI.
