Maddy Ely powers, Penner pitches Creek to victory
MINGO JUNCTION — Maddy Ely and Carley Jo Penner each had big days to remember during the Indian Creek softball team’s 18-0 victory over Buckeye Local in five innings on Monday.
Penner tossed a complete-game, one-hit shutout on the mound, while striking out five and walking three. At the plate, Ely powered her way to three home runs and eight RBIs.
Not to be outdone, Trinity Taylor produced three singles, a double and a run batted in. Emily Booth smoked a pinch-hit two-run homer. Brooke Grant doubled and scored a pair of runs. Allison Pethel added a single and a double.
For the Panthers, Makaylee Meeks started and took the loss in three innings of work. Samantha Ankrom pitched the fourth. Josey Meddles produced the lone hit, which was a single.
The Redskins (2-1) tentatively host Dover today.
Toronto 12, Catholic Central 2
STEUBENVILLE — The Toronto softball squad downed Catholic Central, 12-2, in six innings on Monday.
Riley Kinsey and Andrea Reeves each tossed three innings and struck out six. Kinsey also produced a single, double and two RBIs at the dish. Maddie Anderson launched a home run and drove home a pair. Abby Liddick singled twice and tallied an RBI. Ashton Thomas also had two singles.
For the Crusaders, Ellen Hanood took the complete-game defeat in the circle. Bella Zinno singled and Julia Lopresto had an RBI.
Edison 11, Beaver Local 0
CALCUTTA — Katie Fluharty pitched a no-hitter during the Edison softball team’s 11-0, five-inning victory over Beaver Local on Monday.
Fluharty also struck out 10 and walked two.
Hannah Christoff had the big bat with a double, home run and four RBIs. Maddie Brenstuhl had a double and two singles. Audrey Scott and Anna Wadas each tallied two singles.
Beaver Local 5, Edison 2
RICHMOND — The Edison baseball team fell to Beaver Local, 5-2, on Monday.
Cam Cooley took the loss in six innings of work, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits, one walk and struck out six. Offensively, Gage Cline singled twice. Jayden Clancey and Jayden Sanders each tallied an RBI. Eli Wilson had a single and drew a free pass.
The Wildcats (2-3) tentatively host Union Local today.
Harrison Central 12, East Liverpool 2
CADIZ — The Harrison Central baseball squad bested East Liverpool, 12-2, in five innings on Monday.
Trace Rutter collected the complete-game victory on the mound, striking out nine, walking three and allowing five hits.
At the plate, Kobe Mitchell produced a single, triple and three RBIs. Treston Nemeth and a double and also plated home three runs. Caleb Blawut doubled and drove home a run. Skylar Mazeroski added a single and a run batted in.
