Creek girls eliminated in sectionals

DUNCAN FALLS — The 11th-seeded Indian Creek softball squad concluded its season with a 4-1 defeat to eighth-seeded Philo during a Division II East 1 sectional semifinal on Monday.

Carley Jo Penner went the distance but took the loss. She allowed three earned runs on six hits, two walks and struck out a pair. Offensively, Alexis Dawson singled and doubled. Maddie Ely recorded the lone RBI.

Philo advances to the sectional final Wednesday at No. 4 seed Claymont.

BASEBALL

Oak Glen 3, Weir High 0

NEW MANCHESTER — Danny Bridges tossed a complete-game no-hitter during the Oak Glen baseball team’s 3-0 victory over Weir High on Monday.

Bridges also walked two and struck out three. At the plate, Hunter Rhoades delivered two singles and two runs batted in. Hunter Patterson singled and drove home one.

For the Red Riders, Anthony DiMatteis took the loss in 3 1/3 innings pitched, allowing three runs on six hits, one walk and struck out a pair. Thomas DeVecchis, who hurled a no-hitter earlier this season, pitched the final 2 2/3 innings, walked four and punched out five. Offensively, Trenton Taflan and Jack Scopel walked.

Brooke 7, Buckeye Local 2

WELLSBURG — The Brooke baseball team scored five runs combined in the fifth and sixth innings to defeat Buckeye Local, 7-2, on Monday.

Charlie Fuscardo picked up the victory in 4 2/3 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on four hits, one walk and struck out four. Alex Jezierski started the first 2 1/3 frames, allowed four hits, three walks and punched out a pair.

At the dish, Braelyn Sperringer tallied three singles and an RBI. Fuscardo singled twice, while Jezierski doubled. Cole Sperlazza had a base knock and drove home a run

For the Panthers, Matt Scott took the loss in five innings on the mound. He allowed four runs on eight hits, two walks and struck out one. Trey Hoover tossed the sixth and allowed three unearned runs on one hit, while punching out one.

Ethan McHugh had two singles and an RBI. Gavyn Romanyak singled and drove home one.

Indian Creek 6, Martins Ferry 1

MINGO JUNCTION — The Indian Creek baseball team prepped for today’s Buckeye 8 championship with a 6-1 victory over Martins Ferry on Monday.

Hunter Rothacker went the distance to collect the win. He allowed one earned run on two hits, four walks and punched out four. At the plate, Corey Cottis had the big bat with a single, double and two RBIs. Aiden Fernandez doubled and brought home a pair. Justice Morris singled twice, while Cam Franke and Isaiah Vandine each delivered a single and an RBI.

The Redskins (10-9) challenge St. Clairsville for the Buckeye 8 title today.
