Pulice’s big blast leads Madonna
CAMERON — Lucky Pulice hit a grand-slam and the Madonna baseball team scored 14 runs, knocking off Cameron on the road, 14-2.
In addition to Pulice’s blast, the Blue Dons got multi-hit performances from Matt Amaismeier (three hits, RBI) and Mason Thompson (two hits, 2RBIs).
After a scoreless first two innings, Madonna took a 5-0 lead in the third and added four more in the fourth to make it 9-0, before the Dragon got on the board in the bottom half of the inning.
Madonna then plated five more in the top of the seventh.
On the mound, Parker Haney went five innings, allowing two runs, none earned, while fanning nine in his season debut.
The Blue Dons are set to play in the OVAC Class 1A championship at Wheeling’s I-470 field on Saturday.
East Liverpool 6, Brooke 2
WELLSBURG — The Brooke baseball team dropped a 6-2 decision to East Liverpool at home on Thursday.
The Bruins led 2-0 after opening the scoring in the bottom of the third, but the Potters plated one in the fifth, three in the sixth and two more in the seventh to take the win.
For the Bruins, Andrew Coursin, Josh Shorts, Alex Jezierski, Matthew Swanson and Blaise Buchmelter each finished with two hits.
Coursin started and took the loss on the mound, fanning seven in five innings.
St. Clairsville 11, Buckeye Local 6
ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Buckeye Local baseball team fell at St. Clarisville Thursday, 11-6.
Ethan McHugh, who took the loss on the mound with a strikeout and three walks, had a hit and two RBIs for the Panthers.
Wheeling Park 8, Harrison Central 3
WHEELING — Wheeling Park used a seven-run second inning to top Harrison Central on Thursday, 8-3.
Kobe Mitchell had a single and two RBIs, while Sam Santille and Skylar Mazeroski each had two hits in the loss for the Huskies.
Caleb Blawut took the loss, striking out three.
Toronto 12, Southern Local 2
TORONTO — The Toronto baseball team defeated Southern Local on Wednesday, 12-2.
Brant Reeves went 3 for 3 and drove in a run, while Ryan Matyas plated four runs.
Avery Wiegand pitched the first three innings and struck out two in the win.
The Red Knights host Shadyside today at 5 p.m. in the OVAC Class 2A final.
Weir High 25, Shadyside 4
SHADYSIDE — The Weir High softball team exploded for 25 runs at Shadyside on Thursday, taking a decisive 25-4 victory over the Tigers.
Sophia Aperfine led the way for the Red Riders (5-6) with two homers, two singles and six RBIs. Olivia Baker homered, doubled and plated three runs, while Mea Kaufman drove in four runs with a double and a triple. Madison Angus and Bella Aperfine also had two RBIs each, while Alexus Adams had three singles, a double and an RBI and Chesney Tice had a double, two singles and two RBIs.
Tice went the first three innings in the circle, fanning three in the win.
The Red Riders are tentatively set to host Big Red today.
