Red Knights advance to Division IV East sectional finals
BELLAIRE — The Toronto softball team advanced to the Division IV East sectional finals following a 6-2 victory over Shadyside on Tuesday.
Riley Kinsey went the distance to collect the victory. She allowed two runs on four hits and struck out one. Second baseman Bri Burrus made 10 defensive assists.
At the plate, Michelle Anderson tallied a single, double and two RBIs. Jenna Anderson singled twice and drove home a run. Maddie Anderson and Ashton Thomas each singled and drove home one. Abby Liddick added a single and an RBI.
The Red Knights, seeded seventh, travel to No. 3 seed Conotton Valley (25-1 winners over Malvern) on Thursday.
Bellaire 18, Catholic Central 2
BELLAIRE — The 12th-seeded Catholic Central softball squad lost in its Division IV East sectional semifinal, 18-2, to Bellaire on Tuesday.
Bella Zinno hit a two-run homer in the first inning, then the Big Reds scored 18 unanswered runs. The Crusaders committed eight errors.
Bellaire, the ninth seed, challenges top-seeded Strasburg-Franklin (20-0 winners over No. 16 seed Bridgeport) on Thursday.
Weir High 4, University 0
MORGANTOWN — Madison Angus tossed a compete-game shutout during the Weir High softball team’s 4-0 victory over University on Tuesday.
Angus allowed two hits, one walk and struck out a pair. She also singled, doubled and drove home on at the dish. Chesney Tice and Reagan Hoover each collected a single and an RBI.
The Red Riders (9-6), who have won eight of their last 10 games, tentatively travels to Madonna today in a city championship tuneup.
Madonna 19, Wheeling Central 8
WHEELING — The Madonna softball team bested Wheeling Central, 19-8, on Tuesday.
Landry Bone picked up the victory and cranked two home runs and a double. Maddie Daugherty had two singles and a homer. Michaela Battista also finished with three hits (two singles, one double).
Madonna tentatively hosts Weir High today.
Oak Glen 6, Columbiana 5
NEW MANCHESTER — Olivia Munoz hit a walk-off two-run double to lift the unbeaten Oak Glen softball team, 6-5, over Columbiana on Tuesday.
Lizzie Kell earned the win in two innings of relief. She allowed one unearned run on one hit, one walk and struck out none. Maddie McKay pitched the first five frames and allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits, two walks and punched out 10.
Munoz tallied two doubles overall. McKay and Makayla Zoellers each singled and drove home one.
The Golden Bears (14-0) tentatively travels to Linsly today.
BASEBALL
Edison 5, Bellaire 4
RICHMOND — The Edison baseball team scored three times in the bottom of the seventh inning to stun Bellaire, 5-4, on Tuesday.
Jayden Sanders started the first six innings and allowed one earned run on seven hits, five walks and struck out nine. Kaleb Whitmore tossed the seventh and collected the victory, allowing one hit, one walk and striking out one.
Offensively, Ian McBane had a single and three RBIs. Blake Connelly doubled, while Gage Cline and Matt Parsons each had a single and a run batted in.
Harrison Central 7, Toronto 0
CADIZ — The Harrison Central baseball squad picked up a big late-season win by knocking off Toronto, 7-0, Tuesday afternoon at Mazeroski Field.
The Huskies received solid pitching from Caleb Blawut, who worked into the seventh and struck out six. He helped his own cause with two singles and two RBI. Trace Rutter had two singles and a RBI.
Jace Madzia led the Huskies at the plate with three singles and a RBI. Treston Nemeth had two singles and two RBI.
Chris Parker went the distance for the Red Knights. He struck out four and walked none.
