Big Red sweeps St. Clairsville at home

STEUBENVILLE — The Big Red volleyball team earned a sweep of St. Clairsville on Tuesday night, 25-23, 25-17, 25-21.

Big Red was led by Maggi Cucarese’s 15 points, two kills, 10 assists and three digs, Kiera O’Brien’s 12 points, four kills and three digs, Tori Mitchell’s 11 points, six kills and four blocks and Sarah Allen’s 10 points, three kills and five digs.

Big Red’s freshman also won 25-11, 25-13 and the jayvees won 25-13, 25-23.

Big Red is set to host Weir High on Thursday in a 5:30 jayvee start.

Toronto falls to Wheeling Central

TORONTO — The Toronto volleyball team lost for just the second time in six outings Tuesday, 26-24, 25-21, 25-20, to Wheeling Central.

For the Red Knights, Ashton Thomas had seven kills and 13 blocks, Taylie Thomas 39 digs, Andrea Reeves four kills, seven blocks and 16 assists, Leah Price six kills and six blocks, Hannah Dobbs 14 digs and five kills and Brianna Burruss 10 digs.

Toronto travels to Brooke on Thursday for a 5:30 jayvee start.

Harrison Central falls to Barnesville

BARNESVILLE — Barnesville posted a three-game sweep of the Huskies Tuesday by scores of 25-16, 25-21 and 25-23.

Harrison Central was led by senior McKayla Dunkle’s six kills and seven blocks. Logan Johnson handed out 14 assists, while Maddy Butler posted 19 digs and Sarah Touville had 12 points.

Brooke sweeps rival Weir High

WEIRTON — The Brooke volleyball team took a three-set sweep of Weir High on Tuesday.

For the Red Riders, Mea Kaufman finished with nine assists, a kill, six digs and an ace. Ziona Barnes had four kills, three blocks and an ace. Mallory Rosnick finished with five kills, two digs and four aces. Janai Tunrer had four digs.

Huskies win golf tri with Ferry and Weir

CADIZ — Harrison Central shot a 181, which was 31 shots better than runner-up Martins Ferry and 73 better than Weir during a triangular Tuesday afternoon.

The Huskies were led by co-medalists Aiden Sliva and Nash Roberts. Each shot a round of 42. Martins Ferry’s Colby Shriver posted a 43.

Heath Clay shot a 47 and Kaily Benal a 50.

For the Red Riders, Jude Smith finished with a 45, Jake Bostaph a 53, Mason Drobish a 76 and Angela Paull an 80.

Buckeye Local tops CCHS

RAYLAND — Buckeye Local fired a 172, which was 23 shots better than Catholic Central Tuesday afternoon.

The Panthers were led by medalist Jacob Berry, who shot a round of 41.

Oak Glen second in five-team match

NEW CUMBERLAND — The Oak Glen golf team hosted and placed second in a five-team match on Tuesday.

The Golden Bears shot a 193 to finish 21 strokes behind Beaver Local’s 172. Brooke came in third at 200, while Toronto did not post a team score.

Oak Glen was led by a 46 from Logan Weekly, while Colby Vesa shot a 47, Caleb Lang a 49 and Bradey Chaney a 51.

Nick Cipoletti led Brooke with a 43, while Noah Conway had a 53 and Alex Jezierski and Owen Petrella each shot 54.

For Toronto, three players turned in a team score. They were Ty Suffoletta with a 45, Noah Karaffa with a 51 and Ty Fogle with a 62.

Also on Tuesday, Oak Glen’s Brasinn Provenzano placed ninth in the nine-hole open division at the WVSSAC Girls Invitational.
