Catholic Central Crusaders sweep Southern Local
STEUBENVILLE — The Catholic Central volleyball team swept its way to victory over visiting Southern Local Monday, 26-24, 25-19, 26-24.
For the Crusaders, Clara Symington had 14 kills, Haley Cherepko 14 assists, Karsen Blake 11 assists and Grace Balzano six kills.
Central hosts Indian Creek on Wednesday.
Red Knights fall to Wellsville
WELLSVILLE — The Toronto volleyball team lost on the road Monday at Wellsville, 25-19, 25-10, 25-17.
The Red Knights got 29 digs from Taylie Thomas, 16 digs and seven kills from Hannah Dobbs, 12 digs from Michelle Anderson, 13 assists, five blocks and three kills from Andrea Reeves, 11 digs from Brianna Burruss and five blocks and four digs from Ashton Thomas.
Toronto heads back on the road to face Buckeye Local today.
Red Riders stopped by Linsly
WEIRTON — The Weir High volleyball team fell at home Monday night in three sets to Linsly, 25-21, 25-16, 25-17.
Mea Kaufman had 10 assists, five digs and two kills for the Red Riders, while Rylee Donaldson had four digs, two kills, an assist and an ace, Mallory Rosnick had four kills and two digs and Janai Tunrer 2 digs, three aces and three kills.
The Red Riders are scheduled to travel to Madonna today.
Huskies top Purple Riders
MARTINS FERRY — The Harrison Central volleyball went on the road and won the final three sets in defeating Martins Ferry in four sets on Monday, 23-25, 25-15, 27-25, 25-15.
Makayla Dunkle had 21 kills, 23 points, 15 aces and seven blocks, Logan Johnson 27 assists and Maddy Butler 25 digs.
Blue Dons edge Huskies
WEIRTON — The Madonna girls soccer team got a quick goal to answer from Gabnriella Spickard and held onto edge Harrison Central on Monday night at home, 2-1.
All of the scoring for both teams came in a five-minute span.
Angelina Spickard scored on a penalty kick in the 52nd minute, before Harrison Central’s Gracie Rogers connected for a goal a minute later.
The winning goal came in the 57th minute when Gabriella Spickard scored on assist from Angelina Spickard
Julia Wingett had eight saves for Madonna while Vanessa Dowdie had seven saves for Harrison Central.
Madonna plays Catholic Central today at 5:30 p.m.
JM tops Creek, Weir
WHEELING — The Indian Creek and Weir High golf teams finished behind John Marshall Monday at the par 36 Speidel Golf Course at Oglebay.
John Marshall set the pace with a score of 181, while Indian Creek was 18 strokes back.
The Red Riders did not turn in a team score, as they only had three competitors.
The Monarchs’ Travis DeGarmo was the match medalist with a 41.
Indian Creek got a 44 from Noah Tweedy, a 49 from Conner Garbade and scores of 53 from Logan Kuczykowski and Luke Merriman.
Weir High’s three scores were a 45 from Jude Smith, a 56 from Zion Spencer and a 60 from Jake Bostaph.
