Catholic Central girls’ soccer team edges Madonna in 1-0 victory

WEIRTON — The Bolster sisters teamed up for the lone goal of the match giving the Catholic Central girls’ soccer team a 1-0 victory against rival Madonna, Tuesday evening at the J.C. Williams Soccer Complex.

Kathryn Bolster scored off of a corner kick from older sister Becca in the second half to give the Crusaders the lead.

Megan Brown made three saves in goal for the Crusaders (6-1-1), while Julia Wingett made seven saves for the Blue Dons (4-3-1).

Catholic Central is scheduled to play Wheeling Central at 7:30 p.m. tonight on the road.

Madonna is slated to play Edison at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at home.

Madonna’s match with Weir High on Saturday has been changed to a 10 a.m. start.

Red Riders blank Edison

RICHMOND — Led by three goals from Jaidyn Kelly and two goals from Liv Baker, the Weir High girls soccer team topped Edison on Tuesday, 8-0.

Jules Glodowski, Liv Bine and Lindsay Fayak each added a goal, while Glodowski, Kiana Luevano, Lexie Fayak, Catherine Glodowski and Shea Engle each added assists.

Liv Baker made made two saves for the Red Riders, while Morgan Lesnansky and Laine Murphey each made five the Wildcats.

The Red Riders, now 2-4-1, will travel to Brooke on Thursday.

Central tops Edison

STEUBENVILLE — Prior to its win on Tuesday, the Catholic Central girls soccer team defeated Edison on Monday, 4-1.

Becca Bolster, Maria Meyer, Jackie O’Karma and Bella Zinno each scored for the Crusaders. O’Karma also had an assist, while Megan Brown made four saves in goal.

Red Knights sweep Panthers

CONNORVILLE — The Toronto volleyball team defeated Buckeye Local in three sets on Tuesday, 25-10, 25-12, 25-18.

The Red Knights, now 5-4 on the season, got 13 kills, 17 digs and four aces from Hannah Dobbs, 10 assists, five kills and 10 digs from Andrea Reeves, eight blocks and four kills from Ashton Thomas, 14 digs and three aces from Michelle Anderson, six assists and four aces from Jasmine Platko and 34 digs from Taylie Thomas.

Toronto is schedule to travel to Bellaire St. John’s today at 6 p.m. for a varsity only match.

Central tops Big Red in match play

STEUBENVILLE — The Big Red and Catholic Central golf teams battled in match play on Tuesday, and it came down to the wire.

After Big Red won the first two matches, Central took the last three for a 3-2 victory at Steubenville Country Club.

Big Red’s Frankue Vostatek and Sonny Scaffidi each came back to win their matches in a playoff, before Central’s Vince Barcalow, Johhny O’Karma and Brandon Schaefer each won their matches to lift the Crusaders to victory.
