Big Red’s James headed to WV State University

Big Red’s Rodney James Jr. will continue his football and academic careers at West Virginia State University, located in Institute, W.Va. The Yellow Jackets compete in the Mountain East Conference and posted a 6-5 record in 2021. James had both his junior and senior seasons cut short by injuries. In five games as a junior, the talented tailback rushed for 596 yards and seven touchdowns. He was limited to just three games as a senior — running for 484 yards on 58 carries and scoring eight times. WVSU recruited him as a running back. Joining him for Wednesday’s signing ceremony were, seated, from the left, his father Rodney James Sr., his mother Katina James and sisters Leyah James and Shakoya James; back, from the left, are Big Red coach Reno Saccoccia, Big Red assistant principal Aaron Newman, assistant football coach Todd Filtz, speed and agility coach Tay Montgomery and assistant football coach Jason Kernahan. James also was a starting linebacker for the Big Red.
