Antonio Meucci Lodge holds meeting

WEIRTON — The Antonio Meucci Lodge met April 10 at Undo’s, with Vice President Tony LaRosa reading invocation and Carol Truax leading the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by members singing “God Bless America.”

President Regina Truax welcomed guest Emily Wagglei. Secretary Rita Orler called roll and read the minutes, which were approved. Linda Pfabe gave the treasurer’s report, and Carol Valenti gave the financial report, both of which were approved and filed for audit.

The state convention will be held April 29 in Morgantown, and members were encouraged to attend. Truax announced the annual picnic will be held Aug. 12, and members are looking at potential sites.

Truax thanked callers Barbara Purks, Mary Lou Rossi and Rita Orler and bingo caller Mike DiBiase and Gabe Arlia for the Veterans and Memorial Day wreaths and programs.

Tony LaRosa and Larry Purks audited the treasurer’s books and they were in good order.

Members sang “Happy Birthday” to Dora Ferella, Chris Sklenar, Margie Serafini and Pauline Tortis, who had April birthdays; and Beverly DiBiase, Kathryn Hardsouk, JoAnn Magnone, Larry Purks, Carmela Pulice and Lola Starvaggi, who had March birthdays. Membership Chair Carol Valenti sent a get-well card to Luigi Muscedere.

The following tours were announced: May 1, Rivers Casino, Pittsburgh; July 2, Pittsburgh Pirates and San Francisco Giants game, PNC Park, Pittsburgh; and July 4, Gateway Clipper, Pittsburgh. For information, contact Truax at (304) 723-0419.

Rick Pastre entertained, playing Italian and American favorites. Pastre began playing the accordion at age 9, studying for 10 years under Dino Belli. His Roland brand accordion was made in Italy.

Stephanie Ianetti won the Undo’s gift certificate, and Beverly DiBiase won the 50/50 drawing.

The next meeting will be held May 9. Dr. J.K. Luthra will show his short film “Sunflower.”
