WINTERSVILLE -- The highlight of the Italian American Cultural Club's June 5 meeting was a Hawaiian luau with the meal featuring a roasted pig with all the trimmings and entertainment provided by Tuika's Polynesian Island Magic.

The entertainers celebrated members' birthdays and taught several members the hula dance.

The club's hula hoop winners were Theresa Coppa and Mary Ann Rigby. The best dressed winners were Bob Ryan and Lucia Scaffidi. Other winners for the evening were Mary Ann Patrizio, Rose Rokosky and Mary Babaryk. As a surprise for the luau, the club offered the dinner at no charge to its members.

Michele Fabbro reported on the Upper Ohio Valley Italian Heritage Festival later this month, noting former state Sen. Lou Gentile will be the honoree. The dinner will be held July 19 at the McClure House Hotel in Wheeling. Tickets are $35 each, and program ads are being sold.

Todd Piergallini announced there will be a wine-tasting event in November.

Monday's meeting will honor the winners of the club's memorial scholarships. They are: Jack Marx, Steubenville High School, attending Franciscan University of Steubenville; Gabriella Capaldi, Catholic Central High School, attending Bethany College; Anthony DeFallo, CCHS, attending Franciscan University; Lexi Biasi, SHS, attending Kent State University; and Virginia Olszewski, CCHS, attending KSU.
