Agape Fall Festival
scheduled for Sept. 22-23
STEUBENVILLE -- Agape Assembly and Agape Homeless Shelter/Food Pantry in Steubenville welcomes the public to its upcoming two-day Agape Fall Festival.
It will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Sept. 22 and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Agape multi-purpose field located at the corner of Sixth and Slack streets in Steubenville.
The festival will include food, free pony rides on Friday, games, entertainment and Christian and inspirational music and mime. Soloists, choirs and mimes are invited to participate as are vendors. The event is a celebration of "our great community and the greatness of God."
Monthly jam sessions on third
Thursday at Follansbee church
FOLLANSBEE -- There's some jamming going on at Calvary Baptist Church, located at 425 Rockdale Road, Follansbee.
And that has been happening at the Hooverson Heights church for the past six months on the third Thursday of the month, beginning at 7 p.m.
The jam sessions are open to the public -- as listeners or performers, who are welcome to bring their instruments and voices to share Christian or country music. Anyone can play, sing or listen. Free refreshments available.
The next jam session will be held Sept. 21, beginning at 7 p.m.

Free movie night tonight
at East Springfield center
EAST SPRINGFIELD -- A free movie night featuring "Miracles from Heaven," starring Jennifer Garner, will be shown at the East Springfield Community Center beginning at 6 p.m. tonight.
There will be free light refreshments, and attendees who register will be eligible for door prizes.
The 2016 movie, which is based on a true story, co-stars Queen Latifah.
The movie showing is a joint outreach effort involving the Richmond United Methodist Church, East Springfield Christ UMC and East Springfield Church of the Cross.
The community center is located on county Road 39 next to the East Springfield Volunteer Fire Department. Everyone is welcome to attend.
St. Peter CWC installs new
officers, adopts seminarian
STEUBENVILLE -- The St. Peter Church Catholic Woman's Club held its monthly meeting Sept. 5 in the church hall with the Rev. Timothy Huffman leading opening prayer.
New officers for the 2017-19 term were installed by Huffman.
Club President Bea Antol thanked the members who worked the bake sale and all those who baked. Proceeds from the bake sale are being donated to the Seminarian Fund, and the organization will be "adopting" a fourth seminarian.
The CWC will once again sponsor the "Grandpa" nutcracker at the 2017 Steubenville Nutcracker Village and Advent Market for 2017.
Antol led the closing prayer.
The next scheduled meeting will be at noon on Oct. 3 in the church hall.
Football Sunday on Sept. 24
at Weirton Christ UMC
WEIRTON -- Christ United Methodist Church, 3598 Pennsylvania Ave., Weirton will host its second-annual Football Sunday at the 10:30 a.m. Sept. 24 worship service.
Weir High School and Middle School teams, Madonna High School football team, Weirton Little Steelers teams, cheerleaders, band and their families are invited to the service, according to a church spokesperson.
Coach Darrin Hicks, Madonna football coach, and Weir High graduate Jordan Allen will be the guest speakers at the football-themed service. All are invited to wear their jersey or the jersey of a favorite team. Following the service we will have a tailgate themed luncheon.
Calvary Community Church
having anniversary service
STEUBENVILLE -- Calvary Community Missionary Baptist Church will observe its 2017 church anniversary at the 11 a.m. service Sept. 24, welcoming Pastor Bobbyjon Bauman as the guest speaker.
His theme will be "Let Us Rise Up and Build."
The church, where the Rev. Calvin McLoyd Jr., serves as pastor, is in the YWCA of Steubenville at 320 N. Fourth St., Steubenville.
"Food, fun and fellowship" will follow the service, which is open to the public.
A native of Wisconsin, Bauman graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Whitewater with a bachelor's degree in education in 1990 and then attended Reformed Theological Seminary, earning his master of divinity in 1995. He taught in the inner-city school system in Houston for two years and has worked as an ordained minister in youth ministry for 24 years.
After relocating to the area about five years ago, Bauman founded and serves as president of the Steubenville-based nonprofit Ohio Valley Youth Network. He also is the regional chaplain of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Bauman has started 12 area FCA Bible Clubs which have approximately 300 students studying the Bible on a weekly basis before school. He works part time for the St. Paul Center of Biblical Theology and recently started a new youth ministry in Wintersville called Connect Youth Ministry.
He is the recipient of the 2017 Village Impact Award from the L.A.W.S. Movement and has been named one of the 2017 Community Stars by the Herald-Star and The Weirton Daily Times. He also has been named the 2017 Calvary Community Guiding Light Youth Advocate honoree.

Blessing of the Pets
at Burgettstown church
BURGETTSTOWN -- The Paris Presbyterian Church, located at 127 Steubenville Pike, Burgettstown, will hold its annual Blessing of the Pets from noon to 3 p.m. Sept. 23.
The outreach will include a rabies vaccine clinic conducted by veterinarian Dr. Mark Ferris. There also will be food and a comedy skit by the Ozark Mountain Crew. All pets should be on a leash or in a carrier.
'Lessons from a Cupcake'
program for Riverview women
TORONTO -- The Riverview United Methodist Church Women met Sept. 11 in the fellowship hall.
Discussion included the recent well-attended Toronto Festival of Arts hailed as a blessing for the church and community. Members also discussed plans for youth events at the church and hosting a meal and Saturday Mission Rejoice service at Urban Mission Ministries.
Devotions and a program titled "Lessons from a Cupcake" were presented by Gloria Boley and Shirley Riggleman.
Mindy Jones will present a program on "Look Good and Feel Better" at the next meeting, set for Oct. 9. All women are invited to attend.
Gospel musician coming
to LaBelle View Church
STEUBENVILLE -- LaBelle View Church of Christ, 301 Ohio St., Steubenville, will host gospel musician Thomas Shelton in concert on Wednesday, beginning at 6 p.m.
Shelton's music ministry has spanned 38 years, as the Indiana native was inducted in Who’s Who in American Music and toured with General Delivery USA. He also traveled as the lead singer for the Gospelites of Dobbins, Calif., and with the Watchmen of Operation Evangelize. He and his wife, Shannon, spent two years in the Caribbean and in South America as cruise directors for New Creation World Wide Christian Cruises. His ministry has taken him to all 50 states and 11 countries.
Church offering program of
patriotic organ, piano music
EAST LIVERPOOL -- A free musical program of patriotic organ and piano music given to commemorate Constitution Day will be presented at 7 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church of East Liverpool.
The program will feature members of the Youngstown Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
Light refreshments will be served follow the program. The church is located at 200 W. Fifth St. in downtown East Liverpool.
