ER card connecting
students with library
STEUBENVILLE -- The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County is giving students access to the library without having to walk through its doors.
An ER -- electronic resources -- card connects students to the library's digital resources, and it's available to schools.
"The library wants students to have access to reliable information and become familiar with services we offer," said Assistant Library Director Mike Gray. "The ER card is available only to schools. If students want to borrow a book in the library they will have to use a standard card," Gray said, noting eBooks from OverDrive, ACT & SAT practice tests on Learning Express, local history with the Digital Shoebox Project, WorldBook Online encyclopedia are some of the databases students will have access to with an ER card.
Gray added that Steubenville City Schools will be using the ER card. "All students in grades eight through 12 in the Steubenville City Schools will be given an ER card to use in school and on their personal devices," Gray said.
Steubenville High School Principal Ted Gorman added "Steubenville High School is excited about teaming up with the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County. We understand how the library plays a very important role in promoting the progress of knowledge. We have many students, who enjoy reading, but they can't afford to buy books because the prices of books are very high. So having every student signed up for an ER card gives them all the resources of the library at their fingertips."
