City to celebrate its culture with festival

WEIRTON — The community will be celebrating its cultural heritage Saturday, with the 10th-annual Festival of Nations.

The event, organized by the Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center, will be held 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Millsop Community Center. There is no cost for admission.

John Sorrenti will serve as the master of ceremonies for the day, with welcoming remarks by Dennis Jones, president of the museum, and Mayor Harold Miller.

Performances will include Kyiv Ukrainian Dance Ensemble, representing Ukraine; Jaya Shri, Sanskruti School of Indian Dance and Music, Sheena Chopra, and Nandanik Dance Academy, representing India; Grecian Odyssey Dancers, representing Greece; Filipino American Association of Pittsburgh, representing Philippines; Yanlai Dance Academy, representing China; Elizabeth Mourat, representing the Middle East; Tadashi Kato, representing Japan; and Ohio and West Virginia Line Dancers and Alecia Ford representing the United States.

Food vendors currently scheduled include Carter Bar B Que, Mount Olive Baptist Church, All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, Cafe Delhi, Filipino American Association of Pittsburgh, Bill Pendergrast, Brynn E. Bears Ice Cream, Jeffery Schuetz and Nana’s Little Sweets.

Informational displays will include China, Frontier Persons, Greece, Hungary, India, Norway, Poland and the United States.
