Several dozen area residents gathered in the Weirton Room of the Millsop Community Center Monday for a "meet-the-candidates" event sponsored by the West Virginia Federation of Democratic Women, the Hancock County Democratic Women, the Brooke County Democratic Women, the Hancock County Democratic Executive Committee and the Brooke County Democratic Executive Committee. Candidates in attendance included Randy Swartzmiller and Diane Magnone, both candidates for 1st District House of Delegates; Bill Ihlenfeld, candidate for 1st District state Senate; Kendra Fershee, candidate for 1st District U.S. House of Representatives; and Jim Douglas, Jeff Kessler, Dennise Smith and William Thompson, all candidates for state Supreme Court of Appeals. Representatives of Hancock County Commissioner Jeff Davis and U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin also were in attendance. — Craig Howell
