Woman attacked by coyote on trail
KINGSBURY, N.Y. -- Authorities say a woman has suffered serious injuries after she was attacked by a coyote while walking on a trail in a rural upstate New York town.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office says the woman encountered the animal on a trail along a canal in the town of Kingsbury on Wednesday. Police say she suffered bites to her face, arm and leg before jumping into the canal to get away from the coyote.
The woman walked to a nearby house to get help. Officials say she was airlifted to Albany Medical Center. Information on her condition hasn't been released.
Eighty-four dogs seized from mansion
WOLFEBORO, N.H. -- New Hampshire's governor wants to strengthen the state's animal cruelty laws after more than 80 neglected Great Danes were removed from a mansion.
Christina Fay was charged in June with two counts of animal cruelty following the discovery of 84 dogs in her Wolfeboro home. Police and animal welfare workers said animal feces was found throughout the mansion, and veterinarians brought in by The Humane Society of the United States said many of the animals had eye problems, skin conditions and viral infections.
Republican Gov. Chris Sununu will join Humane Society officials and some of the dogs at the Wolfeboro Police Department to announce his support for strengthening the state's animal cruelty laws.
Kids honored for saving woman
ELKINS PARK, Pa. -- Five friends, ages 10 to 13, have been honored by township officials for saving a woman from a house fire in suburban Philadelphia.
One of the kids was playing at an Elkins Park playground June 2 when she saw smoke coming from a house.
Aileah Greenwood says that's when she ran to get her sister and friends.
They called 911, then banged on the front door of the house, awakening college student Kayla Hobbs who was sleeping upstairs. Hobbs says "they really saved me."
A fire marshal says if the fire had burned much longer, the house would've been destroyed.
Thirteen-year-old Khasan Bowleg says it was a natural reaction to do the right thing, and credits his parents.
Suspicious man searches for dentures
BERLIN -- A wary woman in southern Germany alerted police after a man buzzed on the door and asked for permission to search her balcony for his false teeth.
Police in Rheinfelden near the Swiss border reported Thursday that an interrogation of the 56-year-old man soon showed that his unusual request was sincere.
He said he had visited a friend living a few floors above the woman and lost his dentures while sitting on the friend's balcony.
Police say the man's dentures had fallen off the balcony and he was simply trying to track down his much-needed teeth.
The man's name was not given in line with German privacy laws. Police wrote they don't know if he ever found his dentures.
Man sprays manure on Border Patrol
NORTH HERO, Vt. -- A Vermont man accused of spraying liquid manure on a marked U.S. Customs and Border Protection car after confronting an agent about immigration enforcement is scheduled to appear in court.
Fifty-three-year-old Mark Johnson, of Alburgh, is due in court on assault and disorderly conduct charges.
Johnson told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the incident occurred after he asked the agent why authorities weren't doing more to arrest immigrants who are in the country illegally and working on Vermont farms. He says the agent was rude.
Johnson says he didn't know the car was behind him when he turned on his spreader.
