Shoplifting suspect left boy to die

TULLYTOWN, Pa. -- A New Jersey man is jailed on charges he left his 2-year-old son to die after a crash that occurred while police were chasing him for allegedly stealing television speakers from a Philadelphia-area Wal-Mart.

Twenty-seven-year-old Christopher Kuhn, of Hamilton, remained in the Bucks County jail Wednesday without an attorney listed in court records on third-degree murder and other charges.

Tullytown police say Kuhn fled the store at Levittown Town Center early Tuesday afternoon after taking the speakers worth $228.

Police say Kuhn ran a red light and collided with two other vehicles, and kept running even after his son was thrown from the wreckage.

Police caught up to Kuhn after a short foot chase.

Nobody else was hurt in the crash. Police say Kuhn's son wasn't in a safety seat.

Man charged in doughnut argument.

RAYTOWN, Mo. -- A Missouri man has been charged with stabbing his 12-year-old grandson in the arm after an argument over a doughnut.

Sixty-seven-year-old Jose Ortega was charged Tuesday with first-degree domestic assault and armed criminal action. Bond is set at $50,000. No attorney is listed for him in online court records.

Ortega told police the boy was disrespectful and that he "snapped" early Tuesday when the boy refused to give him a doughnut. The bleeding boy then ran to get help at a neighbor's house in the Kansas City suburb of Raytown. Hospital staff told police the blade went completely through the boy's forearm, creating a 4-inch (10-centimeter) long wound.

Drunk man claims he time traveled

CASPER, Wyo. -- Police say a central Wyoming man they arrested for public intoxication claimed he had traveled back in time to warn of an alien invasion.

Casper police say the man they encountered at 10:30 p.m. Monday claimed he was from the year 2048.

KTWO-AM in Casper reports that the man told police that he wanted to warn the people of Casper that aliens will arrive next year, and that they should leave as soon as possible. He asked to speak to the president of the town, about 170 miles northwest of Cheyenne.

The man told police he was only able to time travel because aliens filled his body with alcohol. He noted that he was supposed to be transported to the year 2018, not this year.

One-armed woman fails in robbery try

EAST MCKEESPORT, Pa. -- Police say a one-armed woman tried to rob a Pennsylvania bank.

East McKeesport police say 51-year-old Wanda Irvin entered the Key Bank branch about 4 p.m. Tuesday armed with a knife and demanded money. When the teller refused, police say Irvin ran out of the bank and drove away.

Police say a witness got Irvin's license plate, which they tracked to her home where they found a knife in her purse.

Police say Irvin acknowledged the robbery attempt and repeatedly told them, "I don't know why I did it" -- a remark she repeated to WPXI-TV outside the police station. Online court records showed she is in custody at the Allegheny County jail on charges of robbery, possessing an instrument of crime and simple assault.

Man smuggled snakes over border

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A man who was caught trying to sneak snakes into Canada in his socks has pleaded guilty.

Federal prosecutors in Buffalo say 28-year-old Chaoyi Le faces up to five years in prison after pleading guilty Tuesday to violating wildlife regulations.

He was arrested in 2014 at the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge in western New York after Canadian border agents discovered three live albino western hognose snakes hidden in his socks. At first, Le said he'd found them in a New York park, but eventually admitted buying them.

Authorities say Le, a Chinese citizen who lives in Mississauga, Ontario, was trying to avoid a U.S. Fish and Wildlife inspection.
