Russell Thomas "Russ" Hodgkiss, Jr., 77, passed away Friday, April 7, 2017, at the Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville, OH.
He was born March 30, 1940, in Pittsburgh, PA.
Russ attended the Riverview United Methodist Church, Toronto; was a long time member and trustee of the Dyer Country Club of Toronto; a member of the Toronto American Legion Post No. 86; and was a 1959 graduate of Jefferson Union High School.
He loved to golf and was an avid Ohio State Buckeye, Pittsburgh Pirate and Pittsburgh Steeler fan.
Russ served 25 years as head coach of the Clarke Funeral Home Junior League baseball team and served his country during the Vietnam War era in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He retired from the Wheeling – Pittsburgh Steel Mill, Mingo Junction plant as motor inspector.
Russ was preceded in death by his parents, Russell Thomas Hodgkiss, Sr. and Duella (Graham) Hodgkiss.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Kay (Redmond) Hodgkiss, whom he married Jan. 8, 1965; sons, Russell Thomas (Carrie) Hodgkiss , III of Toronto, OH, and Bruce A. "Moose" Hodgkiss of Hilton Head, SC; daughter, Debbie A. (Kevin) Cook of Andersonville, TN; grandsons, Russell Thomas Hodgkiss, IV, Logan and Ian Cook; and sisters, Frances Fleishour of Steubenville, OH, Betsy (Thomas) Gaumer of Cleveland, OH, and Ruth Byers of Steubenville, OH.
Visitation for Russ will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2017, at the Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main St., Toronto, OH.
A celebration service of Russ' life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at the funeral home with Pastor Ed Kovacik officiating.
Interment will follow at the Toronto Union Cemetery where full military honors will be presented by the Toronto American Legion Honor Guard.
