Steubenville Police
Bad move: Lovers Lane residents said two men followed them home from Puerto Vallarta Sunday, staying "extremely close to the rear of their vehicle" and driving erratically. When they pulled into their driveway, they said the men parked and came on their property and began fighting the owner and his son. Both men were identified. The property owner suffered a superficial laceration to his knee but told police he wants to press charges. His wife was not injured.
Assault charge: A Cunningham Lane resident said a woman assaulted her after she called her a derogatory term for a prostitute, Saturday. The resident was bleeding on both arms and told police she wanted to pursue charges. Victoria D. Collins, 21, no fixed address, was booked for assault, police said.
No answers: A man was bleeding at the City Rescue Mission Sunday, but he couldn't tell police how he was injured. Steubenville firefighters/ems transported him to the hospital.
Gift horses: A Foster Place resident complained because his neighbor mowed his grass for him and some of the clippings landed on his car, Saturday. He wanted police to tell the man to stop mowing his grass. His neighbor said he was trying to help the man out, saying he frequently mows his neighbors' yards and the area near the street to keep it looking neat. He said the caller didn't ask him to mow but he felt like he was doing him a favor, since his grass was getting high.
Can't identify him: A North Seventh Street resident told police she'd located her cell phone in Pittsburgh, Saturday. She said a man known only to her as "Brandon" left her a note three days ago telling her he was taking it.
Angry mom: Police on their way to another call spotted a woman pulling her son by his shirt down the sidewalk on Ridge Avenue at Pittsburgh Street Saturday, then another woman flagged them down and said she was the child's aunt and the other woman was hurting him. Police spoke with the woman who was dragging the child, who told them it was her son and he'd left the house without telling his babysitter and she'd had to leave work to look for him. She'd found him in the 1200 block of Ridge and put him in the car and he jumped out and ran down Pittsburgh Street, "screaming and yelling, causing a scene." She told police she ran after him so he sat down in the middle of the sidewalk, refusing to move so she grabbed him by his shirt and pulled. She said the other woman tried to pull the child out of her grasp and they ended up screaming at each other and yelling obscenities and threats. She said the child is only 9 and isn't supposed to be roaming the hilltop by himself, and police told her if they see him out they'll send him home. They also told her to call them if the other woman causes any more problems.
Seized: Police seized a child's bicycle two grown men were fighting over in the 1400 block of Oak Grove Avenue, Saturday. Neither man could prove ownership. One of the men said his child had let the other man's children use the bike but they hadn't returned it, and when he came to get it he started arguing with the father of the other children. He admitted threatening to hit the other man, who went in his house and came out with handgun. He said he never pointed it at the other man.
Risky business: A Wellesley Avenue resident was found unresponsive, Sunday. Officers administered sternum rubs but could not wake her, but Steubenville firefighters were able to bring the woman back with Narcan. Officers seized drug paraphernalia and issued the woman a drug treatment form.
Booked: Benjamin Powell, 30, 1245 Arlington Ave., Steubenville, bench warrant and escape, Sunday. En route to the jail Powell appeared to be suffering a medical emergency and was taken to Trinity Medical Center West.
Bad call: Promise A. Towler, 19, 407 Clinton St., Apt. 1, Steubenville, warrant for assault, Saturday. Towler was taken into custody when police responded to her residence for reports of a disturbance involving Towler and her boyfriend. She said they were arguing over a broken windshield.
Bagged: Jamesina L. Starr, 35, 183 Meadow Road, Wintersville, petit theft, Saturday. Wal-Mart employees told police they watched Starr bagging items without scanning them, and then tried to leave the store without paying. The items totaled $125, police said.
Stolen: A Gramercy Place resident told police someone stole her wallet from her car, Saturday. She lost her ID, EBT card, various credit and debit cards, insurance cards and Social Security cards for herself and her children.
Recurring problem: Someone broke a window at an apartment in the 900 block of North Sixtj Avenue, Saturday. Her television also was destroyed, she said. The vandalism occurred while she was at work and her children were at a party. She told police it's happened before and shes pretty sure she knows who is responsible.
Sounds like …: Callers reported shots fired in the Rosemont Avenue area, Saturday. Neighbors told them an individual in the 300 block was setting off firecrackers, and when they went to his residence an officer observed an empty fireworks box in the rear "that was warm to the touch." He was told fireworks are not allowed in the city.
Drugs: An unresponsive male was reported in the alley behind the 1400 block of Wellsley Avenue, Saturday. The man responded to Narcan and was issued a drug treatment form before being transported to the hospital.
No signs: Police were sent to the 1100 block of Oregon Avenue Saturday after a caller reported hearing shots fired, but were unable to locate any signs of guns been shot. Pedestrians advised the noise was from fireworks.
Callers also reported hearing shots fired on Wellesley Avenue extension Sunday., but police didn't locate any evidence to support the call.
Booked: A city resident was booked into the Jefferson County jail after he was found unresponsive in a car, Sunday. William Rutherford, 28, 1507 Oregon Ave., was initially charged with possession of drugs, but an escape charge was added when Rutherford allegedly tried to flee the hospital, police said. A caller reported finding him passed out in the passenger seat of a vehicle. Firefighters administered Narcan, and when he was alert police said he admitted taking heroin. Rutherford was on probation through Municipal Court, police said.
Booked: Roman Longo, 36, 465 Lincoln Boulevard, Steubenville, possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts of possession of drug abuse instruments and failure to appear, Sunday. Police said they found two used hypodermic needles and a burned crack pipe with chor in his possession when they searched him.
