Steubenville Police

Crisis: A concerned citizen requested a welfare check after seeing a juvenile in the 300 block of Reserve Avenue shoeless and crying, Wednesday. Police were told the juvenile got in an argument with her mother because the breakfast sausage was burnt and ran out of the house. When they got there, they said the girl was getting ready for work.

Red-handed: A man who fled Advanced Auto Parts with a code scanner he didn't pay for still had it in his possession when police caught up to him, Thursday. An employee said the man had asked him to take the code scanner off the shelf so he could see it, then asked to see another item that required him to turn around. As soon as he turned his back he said the thief fled the store on foot with the $435 scanner in his hand.

Loud and proud: A couple causing a disturbance in the 400 block of Dresden Avenue told police their disagreement was strictly verbal and all they'd done was yell, Wednesday. The male was already gathering his belongings to leave, police said.

Batty: A resident in the 100 block of Wildon Avenue needed police to remove a bat that was in the house, Thursday.

Wired up: Thieves stole 200 feet of copper cable and cut the cable to the security camera and box at Encino Energy's Shannon well pad, Thursday. Employees said the cost to replace the parts is $1,500.

Booked: Deputies said a man stopped three times this month for driving a semi without a valid commercial drivers license was booked into the county jail, Wednesday. Jeffrey Lee Young, 32, of Texas was charged by Ohio State Highway Patrol's motor carrier enforcement inspector with operating a commercial motor vehicle without a valid CDL, deputies said. Young was stopped Wednesday on Two Ridge Road, Wintersville. He'd been stopped Nov. 4 and again Nov. 15 for the same reason, they said, and after the Nov. 15 stop he was put out-of-service. Deputies said they warned Young a third violation would be treated as a criminal offense instead of being dealt with through his motor carrier, and since he was made aware of it the day before they cited Black River Logistics' owner Dunyasha Yetts, 52, of Steubenville for wrongful entrustment, alleging he knew Young didn't have a valid license and let him take the rig out again anyway.
