Creative writing, book club, mask decorating are among events offered by library

STEUBENVILLE -- Creative writing, mask decorating and a book club constitute upcoming offering of the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County at its various locations. A rundown includes:

Main Library, (740) 282-9782

Adults: Engage in exercises during the creative writing class on Feb. 23 at 5:30 p.m. Register by calling the library.

Book Club will meet to discuss "The Golden Couple" by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. Join by calling the library.

Children: Stop in to decorate a mask in celebration of Black History Month Tuesday at 3 p.m. Register by calling the library.

Children: Grab-and-Go Story Time is available starting Monday while supplies last. "The Monster at the End of This Book" by Jon Stone and a craft are included in the bag.

Relax at the library on Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. and color pages designed for adults. Supplies are provided.

Adults: A creative writing workshop with educator, author and publisher Brian Hershey will be offered Feb. 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Attend this workshop and learn the strategies to start a story, a method for maintaining consistency in style and plotline progression, methods for combating and eliminating writer's block, daily and weekly routines to help with deadlines and a self-editing method to help polish the written pieces. Snacks will be provided. Registration is required.

Teens: Anime Club will meet on Feb. 22 and make a dragon ornament. Ages 11-14 will meet from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., and ages 15-18 will meet from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Call to join.

Children: Babygarten for parents with children ages birth to 2 will be on Feb. 23 at 10:30 a.m. This is a lap-sit program that will share books, songs and rhymes.

First showing in 50 years for 'Scio, Ohio' program March 27

The Scio Historical Museum will present the program "Scio, Ohio" at the Scio Branch Library on March 27 at 1:30 p.m. at the Barr Memorial Center.

The program originally aired in 1956 as an episode on the television series "The Bell Telephone Hour."

On Dec. 16, 1956, a dramatization of the true story of Lew Reese and the Scio Pottery air on the television series "Telephone Time," sponsored by the Bell Telephone Co.

The story is about how Reese turned an abandoned pottery into a successful Scio Pottery Co. and the major setback he encountered. "It is a feel-good story of how people came together to help make the pottery a thriving business once again."

Scio Pottery items will be available for sale with all proceeds to benefit the Scio Historical Museum.

Donations being collected for Harrison County Dog Pound

The Puskarich Library is collecting donations for the Harrison County Dog Pound throughout the month of February.

Donations can be dropped off Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Movie time in Wellsburg

WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library will show the PG-rated animated film, "Strange World," at 5 p.m. Thursday and the PG-rated family drama, "Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters," at noon Friday.
