Steubenville Police

Disturbance: Police were called to break up a fight in a parking lot outside a business in the 1000 block of Lincoln Avenue, Sunday. A clerk said a co-worker's brother stands outside when she works and tends to "cause issues" with others in the lot, her brother being one of them. She said he's had problems with her brother in the past and when he saw him in the lot they started arguing. Her co-worker's brother left for a time but returned and the argument heated up again, so she went outside, neglecting to close her cash register before she walked away so her co-worker followed her out and started "berating (her) for leaving the cash register open." She admitted she took exception to being talked to "in that manner" so they argued, too, and at one point "engaged in a physical altercation." At least two female bystanders also jumped into the fray, she said. Neither of the clerks wanted to pursue charges.

Big expectations: A woman and her adult son were arguing outside a Ridge Avenue residence, Monday. The mother said he was "highly intoxicated" and had been "yelling profanities" while kids played in the yards next door. Her son said he was sitting on the porch drinking when his mother walked outside "and began making comments that he was drunk," which started them arguing back and forth. Police told him that since he was under the influence, he needed to stay on his porch or go inside and stay off the sidewalk

Run down: A Market Street resident told police responding to a disturbance call in the 800 block that her neighbor had tried to hit her with her car, Sunday.

Rowdy: A city resident was taken into custody after a caller reported a firearm was involved in an altercation in the 100 block of N. 4th Street, Monday. Police allege Daniel Easler, 42, 1206 Maryland Ave., was holding another man down when they arrived at the scene but had no gun because bystanders confiscated guns from both of the men. Easler said he works for a contractor and suspected the man he was fighting with had stolen his tools, and said he ran into the man when he went to the parking lot to see if his tools were in the other guy's car. He claims when he confronted him the man reached for his waistband and pulled a gun, so he tackled him to the ground and dislodged his gun, then pulled his own. Easler was charged with disorderly conduct, police said.

Pick and choose: A caller reported a suspicious male who had guns scattered in a parking lot in the 2100 block of Sunset Boulevard, trying to pawn them, Monday. Police said the man had "multiple rifles" around his vehicle, but employees said they didn't have room for all of them and told him to gather the most expensive ones to bring in. Employees assured police the man was just trying to pawn the guns.

Hot water: A minor landed in juvenile detention after a caller reported a disturbance inside a city residence and it "sounded like a juvenile and adult were involved in a physical altercation," Monday. Police spoke with both parties and determined the juvenile should be charged with domestic violence.

Rolling stopped: A driver was charged after police allegedly spotted her driving through several intersections without stopping, and a passenger was taken into custody on outstanding warrants, Sunday. Police said Marci Ebert, 37, 1413 Wellesley Ave., was cited for the driving violation and issued a summons to appear in court on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, a crack pipe, while her passenger, Eulis Curenton, 49, 307 Lockhart Ave., was served with warrants for child endangering, two counts of having weapons under disability and two counts trafficking drugs, all felonies. Police said when Ebert got out of her car to sign her warrant they saw the crack pipe fall to the floorboard. No other contraband was found in the vehicle and two other passengers were released.

Deep pockets: A man walked out of Rural King with two Milwaukee drills, Saturday. Employees said the man put the drills in a shopping cart, then ducked down an aisle without cameras and took them out of the box, concealed them under his clothes and left the store without paying. The white male was wearing a dark blue No. 22 Cowboys jersey and fled in a red sedan, police said. The stolen drills were valued at about $530.

Taken: A resident in the 200 block of Belleview Boulevard said two bicycles were stolen overnight, Sunday. He said they might have been in his garage, but officers said there was no sign of forced entry and nothing else was missing.

Booked: Brittani Smith, 27, 129 Hardy St., Weirton, theft, Sunday. Employees at Wal-Mart told police they watched Smith switching price tags on clothing items. Police said Smith admitted she'd done it.

Draw: Michael Allison, 33, 6292 Veterans Blvd., and Logan Larue, 19, 321 Woodridge Drive, each cited for a red-light violation following a two-car collision at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Lovers Lane, Sunday. Each driver claimed the other had run the red light, but dispatch advised officers both had been at fault.

Off balance: A woman from the 1000 block of Adams Street told police she and her husband argued and he shoved her, Monday. She said she grabbed a television to keep from falling and it fell to the ground, but police said she had no visible injuries. Her husband also said they'd been drinking but told police his wife got upset and knocked the television over and cracked the screen. He said he didn't see it happen so he couldn't say if it was intentional, but he didn't want her to return for the night.

Causing problems: Police were told two women were fighting in the 700 block of Market Street, Monday. When they went in the building police said they heard yelling coming from an apartment, but the resident told them "everything was OK and (it) was just verbal." They were advised to keep it down.

Didn't pay: Wal-Mart employees told police two people who bagged items without scanning them fled the store in a silver Ford Edge that was waiting for them, Friday. The couple bagged "a multitude of items," mostly consisting of higher value paint and paint products, and paid for a couple of small, inexpensive items. When the two exited the store the car pulled up and parked in front of the doors and the two began "hastily" throwing the items in the trunk. When employees tried to detain the thieves they said the driver jumped out to help them.

Cited: Ronnie Delatorre, 37, 815 N. Sixth Ave., driving under suspension.

Booked: Amber A. Anderson, 21, 143 1st Street, Bergholz, bench warrant, Monday. Anderson had asked to be added to the municipal court docket Monday but court was already in session and they were unable to get her on the docket. The warrant was confirmed and Anderson was taken into custody.

Repeater: Walmart employees gave deputies information on a shoplifter who's stolen merchandise on at least six occasions, Monday. The thefts totaled just over $142.

Code issue: Notice of violation were sent to the owner/occupant of a property at 436 Spring Ave., high grass/weed.

Hit-skip: The owner of a vehicle parked in the 400 block of S. 5th Street Rear said it was struck by another vehicle, Monday.

Bike gone: An Oak Grove resident reported a bicycle stolen from the side of her residence, Monday. She said the theft happened between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Cited: Suzanne C. Rosachi, 23, 801 Woodlawn Rd., Steubenville, speeding.

Booked: Joshua Gooch, 37, 732 N. Sixth Ave., Steubenville, bench warrant out of municipal court, Monday.

Mingo Junction Police

Big stink: A resident complained that a man had purposely put feces on or near his property, resulting in an offensive odor, June 7. Police observed what appeared to be horse manure on south side of the residence and spoke to a neighbor who said the manure separated the property lines between his house and the other. He said he was using the manure to help the grass grow, but police pointed the the grass with the manure cover was already properly growing. They advised him to remove all the manure or be cited.

On the run: An officer searched for a gray Honda after callers reported seeing a man laying on the road and peering under people's cars, June 9. The officer located the man, who said he was trying to retrieve a kitten that had run under his vehicle. He said the kitten continued running under cars until it ran onto someone's porch, at which point he gave up the chase. The officer advised the man not to lie on the road to avoid being hit by a vehicle.

Theft report: A Mingo woman told police she bought a cell phone for a roommate while he was living with her but he's moving out and won't return it, Sunday. The woman said the roommate moved out Sunday but refused to return the phone, a Galaxy phone with a cracked screen protector and a pink and red case. The woman said she had the phone disabled so the the man could not use it. Police later made contact with the roommate, who claimed he was the one who purchased the phone but he didn't have a receipt for it and said he would return the phone the next day to the police department.

Diamond ring: A Mingo woman told police her diamond ring, described as a "size six, 18-karat diamond ring with diamonds all over," was missing, and she thinks it was her nephew who took it, June 10. She said her nephew, who she said is known to steal things and do drugs, was the last person at her residence before the ring went missing. When the nephew had entered, she said, it was in her living room with other rings. The woman said she had already searched one pawnshop for the ring, but the employees told her she needed a police report. She filled out a voluntary witness report and police told her a report would be on file.

Mother and daughter: Police responded to a domestic violence complaint Wednesday at a home along Hallock Avenue, where a man said his sister hit his mother "multiple times in the face" at the sister's home across the street. When police met with the mother, she said the daughter and she had been in an argument and her daughter began to hit her, so she kicked her to stop the attack. The daughter told police the two had started to argue before the mother "hit her in the face six times before going back to her house." Police said neither of them wanted to write a statement or seek medical attention, and since they didn't see any visible injuries they told them to separate for the rest of the night.,

BB gun: A Mingo man contacted police Friday saying he wanted to give them a BB gun he obtained from his brother, who "gave him the gun so he could store some belongings in his yard." The man said he did not want the gun and did not want his brother to have it because he was not sure what his brother would do with it. Police observed the gun to be unloaded and disassembled. It was placed in the back of a cruiser as police went to obtain a property received form.

Cable theft: The owner of a transportation company and a driver told police someone stole some copper cables. June 9. The owner said a trailer carrying two wheels of top-of-the line okonite copper had some of the copper cables cut off one of them and stolen. He said the trailer was not damaged. He told police he doesn't know how much was stolen but thinks the thief's car is parked behind a Commercial Street business. Police told the men they'll contact the business to see if there's any security footage.

At the wheel: An officer observed a vehicle with an unresponsive woman slumped over the steering wheel stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Carlisle Avenue and Valley Road on June 7. The officer tried to enter the vehicle, but all the doors were locked, so he called for Mingo Junction Fire and EMS while attempting to gain entry. The police chief arrived minutes later as the officer continued his attempts, and they said they knocked loudly on the windows to try and awaken her. Fire and EMS used emergency glass-breaking equipment to gain entry and then performed a sternum rub to resuscitate the woman, who was taken into custody under suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence.

Oversize load: Police spotted an oversize load on the 300 block of Logan Avenue, June 7. The vehicle was attempting to back down Logan and turn onto state Route 7, but police said the vehicle "eventually bottomed out" while trying to make the turn. The driver requested assistance from a tow and once a truck arrived at the scene to assist, the roadway was cleared.
