Carrollton tops Big Red with big fourth quarter

STEUBENVILLE -- Visiting Carrollton scored 23 fourth-quarter points to pull away from the Big Red girls basketball team Monday night inside the Crimson Center, 58-48.
After the Warriots led 30-28 at halftime, Big Red pulled ahead 41-35 going to the fourth quarter before the Warriors fourth quarter offensive outburst.
Nylah McShan led Steubenville (2-2) with 22 points, while Madelyn Criss finished with nine points and a pair of 3-pointers.
Big Red travels to Oak Glen on Thursday.
Crusaders top Oak Glen
NEW MANCHESTER -- Catholic Central's girls basketball team went on the road for the first time this season Monday and earned a 54-49 victory over host Oak Glen.
Anna Arai led the now 3-1 Crusaders with a game-high 22 points. She completed her double-double by snaring 14 rebounds. Jackie O'Karma also reached double figures, finishing with 12 points. She was credited with nine assists.
The Golden Bears led 13-11 after the opening quarter but Central, thanks to six points from Arai and four from O'Karma, rallied to take 25-20 lead at the intermission. The visitors increased their advantage to 41-31 heading into the final frame.
Central led by as many as 15 before Oak Glen rallied behind eight Kami Ward markers and two Ella Stewart triples. The Golden Bears trailed by just three (52-49) with seven seconds remaining. O'Karma drained two free throws to account for the final margin.
Mary Rhode and Ella Maragos evenly divided 16 for Central, which visits Madonna Thursday for a varsity only contest (the opening tip is set for 7 p.m.)
Kami Ward scored 16 for the now 2-3 Bears. E. Stewart finished with 11.
Oak Glen entertains Big Red Thursday.
Brooke bowlers split with EL
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke bowling teams split matches with East Liverpool on Monday.
The Bruins' boys team topped East Liverool 1,638-1,373, led by Daktoa McMillan's 230 single game and 357 series.
The Potters won the girls match 1,419-795.
Tegan Williams led the Bruins with a 179 single game and a 311 series.
