STEUBENVILLE -- The Steubenville High School Class of 1974 will hold its 50th class reunion in the coming weeks.

Classmates decided to go a little farther this year and turn their icebreaker, held a day prior to the reunion, into a fundraising event.

According to Dave Giannamore, who graduated with the Class of '74, the event will be open to the public, with doors opening at 8 p.m.

A band consisting of several musicians who previously played in a number of local bands will take to the stage in the hopes of raising money for a scholarship fund for one graduating senior from their alma mater.

Giannamore said the band will begin playing at 9 p.m. until approximately 11 p.m. on Sept. 20 at Froehlich's Classic Corner in Steubenville.

Band members will include Rich Wagner on drums, percussion and vocals.

The former SHS band member was part of local bands Matrix and K-Rex. Charlie Pavlik will play bass guitar. The former SHS band member was also part of Matrix and K-Rex.

Bob Scurti will be on guitar and vocals. He was part of local bands Matrix and Rubber Soul. Giannamore plays guitar, drums and is on vocals. The former SHS band member was part of local bands Ohio and Windjammer.

Other local musicians include Al Pavlik on lead guitar, a member of the SHS Class of '70. He played in a number of local bands, including the Undertakers.

And J.R. Wright will be on keyboards and vocals. The band has rehearsed since mid-summer, as their schedules have permitted, Giannamore noted.

Any donation amount will be accepted at the door, with all money to be given to the Class of '74 scholarship fund. Anyone wanting to donate but not able to attend the event can make a check payable to Steubenville High School and mailed to the school with attention to Ted Gorman, 420 N. Fourth St., Steubenville, OH 43952. Note in the memo "Class of 74 Fund No. 428."

"Everyone in the area is welcome to attend this event, so the band is asking for you all to please come out and help them help a young graduate from the valley continue their education," Giannamore said.

A 50/50 drawing will be held, as well as a silent auction.
