Shrine Club to hold breakfast

WEIRTON -- The Northern Panhandle Shrine Club will hold its all-you-can-eat breakfast 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Shrine building, located at 1221 Rice Blvd. in Weirton.

The event is open to the public and all are welcome to attend. The breakfast will include pancakes, scrambled eggs and sausage links, along with coffee, orange juice, hot chocolate and hot tea. The cost per meal will be $8 for adults, $4 for children ages 6 through 12 and free for those 5 and younger.

Church to remember King

STEUBENVILLE -- The Martin Luther King Jr. Association of Steubenville will present an ecumenical memorial service for King at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Second Baptist Church, located at 717 Adams St.

This year's theme will be "Mission Possible II: Building Community, Uniting a Nation the Non-Violent Way." The evening's keynote speaker will be the Rev. Rudy McAllister of the Mount Olive Baptist Church in Weirton. The community is invited to attend the service.

Effective mentoring to be discussed

WEIRTON -- The Hancock and Brooke Young Professionals will host the speaker event "Effective Mentoring," at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 22 at the Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau, located at 243 Three Springs Drive, Suite 17 in Weirton.

The event will feature Ronna-Renee Jackson, CEO of LaunchPoint Leadership Group, who will share insights on how to become a confident, capable mentor, as well as how to successfully find and engage with a mentor. This program is designed for young professionals, emerging leaders and community members interested in personal and professional growth.

The event is free and open to the public, making it accessible to professionals at all career stages interested in strengthening mentoring relationships and leadership skills. The event aligns with National Mentoring Month, highlighting the importance of mentorship in career development, leadership and community engagement.

Hancock and Brooke Young Professionals is dedicated to fostering professional development, networking and leadership opportunities for young professionals throughout the region.

Book club to meet

WELLSBURG -- A group of friends, a good book and free-flowing discussion are the ingredients for a wonderful experience, according to officials at the Brooke County Public Library.

The library's book club will meet at 5 p.m. Jan. 30 to discuss the book "Hiding," by C.L. Johnson. Attendees will receive the book members will read for February. The club, which is open to the public, meets in-person and virtually for anyone interested in joining. There is no charge to attend.

Anyone joining virtually and in need of a meeting ID and password can contact the library at (304) 737-1551. Books can be requested and placed on hold for free by visiting wvreads.overdrive.com or by obtaining a copy at the library.
