WINTERSVILLE -- The Tri-State Home and Garden Show was host for more than 80 vendors starting Friday at the St. Florian Hall to help area residents with all their homemaking needs, from roofing to furnishing.
Upland South Candles was one of the many vendors at the event.
"It's a good platform to get word out," said co-owner Rose Minch.
Minch said the candles from Upland South Candles are made from all natural soy wax, only use fragrances that are phthalate-free and contain no butylated hydroxytoluene.
In addition, the candles are made by Jack and Mackenzie "Mack" Owen.
Jack and Mack both have special needs and came to work for Upland South Candles through the Transition to Work program at the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School.
"They do a fantastic job and work hard to make beautiful candles," noted Minch.
Samuel Grill of Woodland Trails Greenhouse was also at the show.
"Basically, when I come to an event like this – yes, I do sell some stuff," said Grill. "But, it's really to get my name out there."
Grill said Woodland Trails Greenhouse is an alternative to some of the larger businesses.
"We give you information to go home and succeed," he said.
The show, sponsored by DeNoon Lumber, the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce and Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce, has become a yearly tradition in the Ohio Valley.
Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce President Brenda Mull thinks it's important to be at the event, and to show support for local businesses and all they have to showcase.
"When you can put them (the vendors) all in one room, it makes it easier for the community to show support," said Mull.
Joyce Ryan-Orlando, ambassador for the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, said she finds the Home and Garden Show to be something the public really enjoys.
"You see people leaving with a lot of information," said Ryan-Orlando. "So, it's good for both community members and local businesses. Some people come just to learn."
The show will continue today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
