Weir High holds senior recognition assembly

WEIRTON — Weir High School held its annual senior recognition assembly on May 26 in the Carl R. Hamill Fieldhouse.

Principal Kristin Bissett welcomed the Class of 2017 parents, presenters, community, teachers and Weir High underclassmen.

Officers for next year will be Student Council President Taylor Quickle and Student Council Vice President Philip Hinerman; senior class President Caroline Fodor and Vice President Jake Curtis; junior class President Gabriela Tournay and Vice President Samantha Kaczmarek; sophomore class President Kayleigh Cowden and Vice President McKenna Holt; and freshman class President Hunter Dodson and Vice President James Littleton.

Seniors graduating with highest honors were Amelia Adams, Anna Creel, Mary Babinchak, Georgia Beatty, Adam Cowden, Abigail Cowher, Zachary Hannah, Michael Mills, Mariah Stevens and Abby Wallace.

The Chuck Mahoney Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Domenick Murphy, Abigail Cowher, Francesca Farran and Isabella Kirlangitis.

Other awards were the Chad Pickens Scholarship which went to Isabella Kirlangitis; Judy Ann Simich Memorial Scholarship to Francesca Farran; Aaron Davies Memorial Scholarship to Levi Mikula; Weirton FOP Scholarship wto Donavan Spencer; George Zatezalo Memorial Scholarship to Justin Roberts; Kinsey S. A $1,000 Student Body President Award was awarded to Isabella Kirlangitis; $1,000 Newspaper Scholarship to Georgia Beatty; $6,000 Diversity Scholarship to Adam Cowden, Zachary Hannah, Matthew Komorowski and Chayton Leuvano; $6,000 level 4 Scholarship of Distinction to Kara Patterson, Jacob Rosnick, Anita Village and Elizabeth Gillette; $8,000 level 2 Engineering Excellence Scholarship to Adam Cowden; $10,000 level 3 Scholarship of Distinction to Owen Boyd, Francesca Farran, Michael Gresko, Michael Mills, Levi Mikula and Matthew Komorowski; $12,000 level 2 Scholarship of Distinction to Amelia Adams, Logan Allen, Mary Babinchak, Chayton Leuvano, Isaac Piatt and Adam Cowden; $16,000 level 1 Scholarship of Distinction to Zachary Hannah; and $30,000 Bucklew Scholarship to Georgia Beatty.

A West Virginia Northern Community College Scholarship was presented to Amber Dawson and Katelynn Ferrebee.

West Liberty University officials presented a $1,000/year scholarship to Katelynn Haspel and a $2,000/year scholarship to Megan Apesos and Cody Enrietti.

Becca Ball was awarded the John Phillip Sousa Award and the Esprit de Corps Award. The Maestro awards went to Logan Allen and Taylor Wright.

Senior students recognized with the Drama Club award were Logan Allen, Mary Babinchak, Georgia Beatty, Brandon Cramer, Madison Hoffman, Victoria Perito, Andrew Veres and Abby Wallace.

The Chad Pickens Baseball Award was presented to Michael Mills and Jordan Allen and the Donnell Football award went to Donavan Spencer and Jordan Allen.

A cheering award was presented to Amelia Adams.
