Jefferson County sheriff

Arrested: A 17-year-old Springfield youth, criminal trespass, aggravated menacing, possession of a schedule II substance, possession of a drug abuse instrument and probation violation, Saturday. He also was cited for allegedly operating a vehicle under the influence, no operator’s license and fictitious registration. Deputies said an Amsterdam resident, who was armed, said he discovered the youth leaving his garage early Saturday morning and, when confronted, the youth pulled a gun out and pointed it at him.The youth fled when the homeowner’s wife called police, jumping into the passenger seat of a white pickup truck operated by a man the homeowner recognized.

Hours later, a caller reported seeing the youth with a gun but said he left before deputies arrived on scene. Around 11:30 p.m. deputies spotted the white truck in the vicinity of Wolf Run, traveling at a high rate of speed. Deputies said when they took the youth into custody, they confiscated a number of items including a black pellet gun, they said.

Warned: A Pennsylvania man was warned to stay away from a family member’s home in Island Creek Township, Friday.

Angry: A Richmond area resident told deputies his ex-girlfriend broke his kitchen window and assaulted him, Sunday. The woman said he pushed her.

Towed: A sport motorcycle was left in front of a former auto body garage on County Road 2, Yorkville, Monday. Deputies said the motorcycle, which had a fictitious registration, had been painted, the ignition tampered with and no VIN number, was likely stolen so it was towed.

Damaged: A resident of old State Route 7, Steubenville, said her ex-boyfriend entered her home uninvited and assaulted her, breaking her phone and tablet, Saturday.

Spoofed: A resident of Morningside Court, Wintersville, received a call from a woman purporting to represent Census 2020, Monday. Victim said the caller referred to her by her maiden name and asked her where she worked, then hung up. Deputies said the perpetrator spoofed someone else’s phone number.

Arrested: Steven James McVay, 39, 131 East Railroad St., Columbiana, failure to appear for a District Court 1 review hearing, Tuesday.

Steubenville police

Arrested: John Stewart Criss, 60, 4527 Fairway Dr., Steubenville, failure to advise police of a firearm in his vehicle, Monday. Criss also was cited for a stop sign violation and open container.

Arrested: Miah Kathleen Coviello, 26, 502 State Route 151, Mingo Junction, probation violation, Monday.

Arrested: Thomas Edward Walenciej, 43, 1306 Arlington Ave., Steubenville, failure to appear (Harrison County), Monday.

Found: A hypodermic needle was found at a gas station on South Third Street, Monday.

Towed: A vehicle parked behind Trinity East near the old school of nursing was impounded, Monday. Police said it had been reported as a suspicious vehicle and was listed on a vehicle trespass form.

Quieted: A woman yelling at people in the 800 block of Market Street was advised to stop or be arrested, Monday.

Taken: Residents in the 700 block of Market Street reported prescription medication was taken from their home, Monday.

Struck: A truck with a trailer struck the overhead clearance sign on the Market Street Bridge, Monday. Debris that spilled was removed, police said.
