Steubenville police

Nap time: Police responded to a report of a man unconscious in a vehicle on South Third Street, Saturday. According to a report, police arrived and located the man, awake, standing near a vehicle matching the description. The man told police that he was short on sleep and tired, the report said, explaining that he got gas before going to work and fell asleep in the vehicle. The man consented to a search of his person, but not his vehicle. Police noticed “white crumb like substances” on the driver seat, and conducted a probable cause search. The substance tested positive for cocaine, but no other illegal substances were found. The vehicle was parked and the man received a ride from another licensed driver.

Not very neighborly: Police responded to a reported dispute between neighbors over trash blocking a parking spot on Central Court, Saturday. According to the report, a man said his neighbor keeps putting “junk” in front of his property, preventing him from having access to a handicap parking spot. The man pointed out several items he said he removed and placed back on the neighbor’s property. Police advised the man to call the police next time items are placed on his property and not to touch them prior to their arrival.

Busted: Police responded to a shoplifting incident at a store on Mall Drive, Saturday. According to the report, a loss prevention officer advised police that a female in question was observed placing two items on top of each other in a self-checkout lane and only scanning the cheaper item, before bagging both. The report said she was alleged to have done this twice, before completing the transaction. Police were shown a video of the incident which matched the description from the LPO. It was also found that the woman had previously been banned from the store. Elizabeth R. Renforth, 25, 237 Slack St., was taken into custody on charges of petit theft, contempt of court and criminal trespass.

In need of help: Police responded to a request for a welfare check on an individual that a caller stated had been drinking and stated he was going to harm himself. The caller said they believed the man to have multiple firearms and “in the woods,” the report said, providing a description of the vehicle. After checking his home, police located the man in the parking lot of a restaurant with the vehicle off, the keys on the passenger floor and a firearm visible on the console. The man was taken to the hospital and placed on a 72-hour mental health hold.

Body found: Police aided Steubenville and Wintersville fire departments after a female was found unresponsive in an apartment on North Fourth Street, Sunday. The female was observed to be pale and limp and did not have a pulse. The report said police did not observe any signs of illegal drug use. The female was declared deceased at the hospital.
