Overstayed: A California man was taken into custody when he allegedly refused to leave a hotel after his stay expired, Tuesday. Police said James P. Herman, 51, Van Nuys, was charged with trespassing when he refused to check out. Hotel employees said Herman deadlocked himself in the guestroom and yelled at them, and when police arrived they said he refused to open the door and claim he told them, "Why don't you make me?" After being warned several times they said he would not talk at all, and hotel management gave them permission to force entry into the room.
Stiffed: A Linduff Avenue resident said a customer who rented his Sunset Boulevard storefront for a kids party left without paying the final bill, Tuesday. He said efforts to contact the woman have met with no response. He said she owes him $250.
Irritable: A North Fourth Street resident was agitated that someone called police because she was being loud in her own apartment, Monday Callers told police they heard shouting, but police said when they knocked on the woman's door she was upset they were called. She said she was being loud in her own home and refused to identify her friend who was visiting. She said nothing physical had taken place and she did not wish to speak with them any further.
Damages: A woman in the 1400 block of Oregon Street showed police video of a female driving a silver Mercury Sable who stopped at her residence and ripped a piece of her down spout off, Monday. The woman then shoved it in her back seat and drove off. Police said they could see numerous downspouts in the woman's car. The part of the downspout she left on her house was severely damaged, police said. The resident wants to file charges.
Booked: Jason Andrew Barbee, 45, no fixed address, fugitive from justice, Monday. Barbee was taken into custody after a traffic stop for a loud muffler on Sunset Boulevard at Hollywood Boulevard. Police said Barbee's license was expired and there was a warrant for his arrest out of California for a probation violation on an arson charge with full extradition. He also was wanted on warrants out of Florida, but police said those were in-state only.
Wheels turning: A motorist in the 700 block of Lawson Avenue told police his wheel fell off as he was headed south, Monday. He was able to get it back on his car and drive away.
Drugs: One person was charged and another cited after they allegedly were spotted passing what was believed to be a crack pipe between them at a downtown gas station, Monday. Blanca L. Oldham, 56, 214 N. Fourth St., Apt. 405, Steubenville, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana, while Donte L. Saunders, 42, 706 Woodlawn Road, Apt. 1, Steubenville, was cited for possession of marijuana.
Booked: Jeffrey L. Rawson, 41, 3449 County Road 15, Rayland, falsification, Tuesday. Police took Rawson into custody following a traffic stop in the 900 block of Lincoln Avenue. They allege he tried to conceal his true identity because his license was suspended and he had an active arrest warrant for failure to appear out of Wintersville County Court.
Charged: Patrician A. Spanovich, 62, 4439 A Lovers Lane Circle, Steubenville, criminal trespass. Spanovich allegedly entered a neighbor's residence without consent to confront an occupant about $400 that was missing, police said. She maintains she knocked on the door and the neighbor let her in.
Booked: William Vandyke, 27, 502 Woodlawn Road, Steubenville, possession of drugs (F5), contempt of court, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance, Sunday. Vandyke allegedly had a crack pipe, two Xanax pills and crack in his possession when he was taken into custody for violating a protection order, police said. They said he was spotted in a car with the woman who had obtained the order against him, police noted.
Broken: A Maryland Avenue resident said someone shattered her upstairs window, possibly with a BB gun, Tuesday.
Curious: A North Seventh Street resident told police he thinks he heard someone enter his apartment while he was in the shower, Tuesday. He said he heard his front door unlock, but when he went to investigate he didn't notice anything missing. He told police he thinks someone in the building has a master key.
Booked: Michael West, 45, no fixed address, assault, Tuesday. A Pennsylvania Avenue resident told police West had forced his way into her residence and assaulted a male who was there, then fled; Jeffrey Michael Dotson, 43, 125 Ravine St., Mingo Junction, possession of drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of drug abuse instruments and petit theft, Tuesday.

Lost: A McConnell Avenue resident told police her dog, an adult Husky, is missing.

Moved: Police called a tow truck after a resident in the 1600 block of Ridge Avenue complained someone had parked in front of his garage, Sunday. The owner of the vehicle came out and settled up with the tow truck driver and moved the car himself.
Struck: A woman walking to Wendy's said a vehicle leaving the McDonald's parking lot struck her, Sunday. She said her hip and leg were injured. The driver said she was leaving the parking lot and the woman walked in front of her car.
Booked: Kasey L. Mamula, 37, 515 N. Fourth St., Toronto, possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia, Sunday. Police allege Mamula was spotted lighting a pipe, and when she realized police were approaching claim she tried to conceal it in her bra. Officers also recovered a small plastic bag and a $5 bill with a rock-like substance she said was methamphetamine in it.
Damaged: A Carnegie Street resident said he went to the market and when he returned he discovered someone had shot a BB at the front door of his rental property, putting a hole in the screen door as well as the glass of the main door, Sunday.
Booked: Robert J Phelps, 35, 3249 county Road 68, Toronto, probation violation, Sunday. Phelps also was cited for DUS and a turn signal violation; Robert Smith, 46, 1588 State Route 43, Steubenville, warrant for failure to appear, Sunday. The warrant was served after a caller reported seeing a suspicious person lurking in Powell Avenue; Kevin D. Frye, 67, 3248 Portland, domestic violence, Sunday.
