Let it go: A Dillonvale woman said her husband was at the end of their driveway waiting to pull onto state Route 152 when a white SUV with temporary plates operated by an individual known to them both swerved off the main road and tried to hit her husband's truck, Wednesday. She said the driver of the SUV, who she said has been harassing her family, then fled. She said the man has sour grapes about a prior relationship with a family member. They were advised to obtain a protection order and go from there.
Up and comers: American Legion Post 557, Wintersville, which is in the process of finalizing installation of new security cameras, spotted footage of two children throwing rocks at their building and their sign, Wednesday. The children were identified as two kids they've had problems with in the past. After watching video of the children throwing rocks at the building, pulling on door handles and tampering with a flag box housing old battered flags set to be destroyed, a deputy went to their home and spoke with their father, who was advised the children, aged 10 and 8, are no longer permitted on the Legion's property. The kids admitted they threw rocks, he noted.
Steubenville police
Over and out: A caller reported seeing a car go over a hill and the owner walk away in the area of John Scott Highway and Rosslyn Boulevard, Wednesday. Police located the vehicle embedded in the brush and trees at the bottom of a steep hillside, but said it didn't appear to be damaged. The property owner said he watched the woman exit the vehicle and "crawl up the hill and walk away." Her boyfriend made arrangements to have the vehicle towed away.
Chicken scratch: An Arden Avenue resident's chickens got loose, Wednesday. Callers had reported the chickens were "roaming freely in and out of the roadway and through residents' yards." The owner was located and advised the birds need to be contained in a cage or a chicken coop. A short time later she and a friend had gathered them.
Dunked: A woman tried to pay for her purchase at the drive-through with a $20 bill that didn't pass the counterfeit marker test, Wednesday. The bill was seized and the woman left her information with the store.
Dangerous: A caller reported a small child riding a hoverboard in the street in the Lincoln Avenue/Coal Hill area, Wednesday. Officers checked the area but couldn't locate the child.
Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to the owners/occupants of properties at 329 S. Fourth St., 324 S. Fourth St., 320 S. Fourth St., 318 S. Fourth St.; 333 S. Third St., 513 N. Fifth St., 734-736 N. Fifth St. and 421 N. Seventh St.
Reported: A caller reported hearing a shot fired in the 1500 block of Euclid, Wednesday. Police searched the area and found nothing to substantiate the report.
Concerned: A Madison Avenue resident told police he thinks someone stole $937 from his account, Wednesday.
Cited: Austin Starr, 18, Lovers Lane, Steubenville, failure to yield left turn; Jeri L. Nelson, 48, 199 Stardust Drive, Apt. 8, Wintersville, following too closely; Keith Noble, 31, 432 Maxwell Ave., Steubenville, driving under suspension and red-light violation.
Served: Tashey M. Fuller, 26, 1415 Euclid Ave., Steubenville, warrant for failure to stop after an accident, Wednesday; Tony L. Oaks, 42, no fixed address, warrant for failure to appear, Wednesday.
Booked: Roger Todd Flati, 39, no fixed address, Steubenville, petit theft and probation violation, Wednesday. Flati allegedly had a pair of Reebok gym shorts and a Lee T-shirt with the tags still attached that he dropped on the ground as mall employees followed him into the woods. His female companion was given a one-year ban from the mall.
