Police reports
Jefferson County sheriff
Creepy: A man with a foreign accent called the sheriff’s office to report a murder, Friday. He told the dispatcher the murder “has not happened yet, but I’m going to kill my girlfriend.” He told the dispatcher the girl lived in Columbus and was 15-years-old and said he was 31-years-old, but refused to say where he was “because in three hours he would be in Columbus to kill his girlfriend.” He refused to give his phone number or his location “because it was our job to find him and stop him from killing his girlfriend.” Deputies attempted to trace the number provided by the phone company but it was disconnected. Police in Columbus were notified.
Get your goat: A Bergholz resident said her neighbor fired his shotgun at her dogs when they chased his goats out of her yard, Friday. She said he also pointed the gun at her and told her to “keep your dogs away from my (expletive) goats,” and said she told him if his goats didn’t come onto her property her dogs wouldn’t chase them off it. When they spoke with the goat’s owner, he denied firing a gun or pointing it at his neighbor. He and his girlfriend were advised to keep their goats on their own property, and the owner of the dogs was told the same.
Short-changed: A Bergholz woman told deputies she felt threatened by an individual she hired to cut her grass, Saturday. She said the man occasionally does work for her and called to see if she needed anything done. She told him she would pay him $50 to cut her grass, but said he only cut one part of her lawn. When she asked him if he was coming back to finish the rest of it another day, he told her he cut what they agreed on. She said she gave him $30 and told him she’d give him the rest when he finished the job and said he took it badly, screaming profanities at her and telling her “you are going to regret this.” Later that night she contacted deputies again and reported someone outside her home, yelling. When she got to the porch she couldn’t see the car but noticed her landscaping lights had been thrown over the bank onto the field across the street.
Robbed: A Springfield township woman reported her home was burglarized, Friday. A bag containing jewelry and her “important papers” was taken, she said. The woman also told deputies that on May 4 she noticed more than $600 in transactions had been made on a debit card belonging to a man who lived with her before he was incarcerated.

A manager who was with the unaccompanied minor said while they waited for her mother to arrive, she’d told them her brother had stolen something and run out of the store without her. Police said an argument erupted when the child’s mother and brother arrived, and the mother threw the chainsaw out of the vehicle and said something to the effect that she “is not going to get in trouble for him.” Police said surveillance footage showed that after he’d loaded the saw into his trunk, McElroy took off the flannel shirt he was wearing and went back in the store to look for his sister but didn’t find her so he left, returning a few minutes later with his mother. The chainsaw was valued at $500.

Officers requested his ID and he initially said he didn’t have to produce it, then asked to speak to them off the record. The officer explained to him he was not welcome on the property and if he stayed he would be arrested and his vehicle towed. He agreed to leave but said he would return with other business for BMV after the officer’s shift was over. He was told again he would be subject to arrest.
