The norm: A caller complained of a woman "acting erratic" at a Market Street location, but when officers arrived they determined the woman's behavior was "normal for her." The woman told them she was "escaping the heat and charging her phone." She was advised to move along and cautioned she can't loiter in a public building.
Didn't notice: A man tried to pay for items at Pleasant Food Mart with a counterfeit $20, Tuesday. Police said the bogus bill had "clearly marked foreign symbols all across" it. The man told police he was unaware the bill was fake and apologized.
In custody: April Stanley, 47, no fixed address, was taken into custody twice within a matter of two hours early Tuesday morning for alleged criminal trespass, police reported. Employees at the downtown Speedway complained Stanley was harassing customers and they had to ask her "multiple times" to leave the property before she finally did, but returned anyway. They said Stanley was booked into the county jail and released on her own recognizance, though she was warned she shouldn't return to the Speedway property. Two hours later, police said they were notified Stanley had returned to the Speedway and was refusing to leave.
Bad night: One man overdosed and his friend was found passed out in the lobby of a building in the 700 block of Market Street, Tuesday. Police found the first man sitting on a couch, passed out, and said when they stirred him, he was sweating profusely, appeared highly intoxicated and reeked of alcohol but was more concerned about the well-being of a friend, who police found on his bathroom floor. The second man didn't respond to sternum rubs or Narcan at the scene, but he received further treatment at Trinity West and was resuscitated and admitted to police he'd injected heroin. He was given a drug treatment form.
Charged: Mark Anthony Smith II, Trotwood, Ohio, was charged with deception to obtain dangerous drugs, Tuesday. Employees at a Sunset Boulevard pharmacy notified police a man was attempting to pick up a fraudulent prescription, and Smith was stopped on Sunset Boulevard.
Wise choice: A man found lying on the ground in the 100 block of South Seventh Street asked for an ambulance to take him to the hospital to detox, Tuesday.
Punched: A downtown resident said her child's father grabbed her by the throat, pushed her and bloodied her nose with his fist during a custody exchange, Tuesday. She said she did swing at him but wasn't sure if she connected. She wasn't sure she wanted to file charges, but police took the guess work out of the situation and filed them on her behalf.

Deputies were dispatched after a dispatcher called a 911 hang-up caller out of Steubenville back and was treated to a selection of profanities, Tuesday. The dispatcher advised when he called the number back, he could "hear a subject using vulgar language on the other end of the line." When they arrived the homeowner, a woman who appeared well and unharmed, led them to her son who was "attempting to repair his iPhone 12 which had a non-functioning screen." The woman explained the vulgar language the dispatcher overheard was her son, "cussing at the phone for not working."
The Empire fire chief requested a deputy backup after noticing an excessive amount of smoke coming from his neighbor's yard and went to investigate, Monday. He said he discovered a huge, unattended bonfire and that it appeared someone was burning synthetic materials from a home renovation. When he made contact with the occupants of the home to inform them the fire had to be attended and synthetic materials can't be burned, he said a male on the property became confrontational, screaming and him and accusing him of trespassing on private property. He said at one point the man grabbed his arm and tried to remove him from the property. He said he wasn't injured and didn't want to pursue charges, but did want a deputy present to prevent the situation from escalating. The fire department arrived and extinguished the flames, while the homeowner was made aware of the concerns and apologized. She said she'd already arranged for a dumpster.
