Jefferson County Sheriff

Crazed: A Granville, Ohio, man told deputies he needed help because his girlfriend "was on drugs, causing problems and trying to fight with people," Sunday at Jefferson State Lake. Deputies said the woman was walking back-and-forth and yelling at a tent, screaming "the ring was not big enough, that is why there was no wedding." She told them she was just camping with some people and denied using drugs or alcohol, but deputies weren't buying that based on the odor of alcohol emitting from her. Her boyfriend said she'd been drinking and he thought she'd also taken some Klonopin, which she gets from her grandmother. He said she stayed outside all night and did not sleep. Instead, she danced and was screaming in the rain and began to harass and threaten him and his two sisters, who left before deputies arrived. He wouldn't detail the threats and said only that he wanted her to get help. She was taken to Trinity Medical Center West for treatment, though she didn't want to go for fear it would violate her probation out of Delaware County.

Threatening: An Amsterdam man allegedly threatened a man Thursday over a stolen gun. The man, his wife and four children were allegedly headed home after getting pizza when they saw the man they believed had stolen the gun and confronted him. A witness said the man, his neighbor, ran into his home " and said a male was at (his) residence with an AK-47-style rifle." The witness said when he went outside he heard the man screaming he was "from Chicago and threatening to kill someone" but told deputies he never actually saw the gun. The man on the receiving end of the alleged threats said he couldn't describe the gun because it was dark, but claimed the man "had threatened to shoot him and bring friends with him to handle the situation." He said he'd only been out of rehab for two weeks and didn't know anything about a stolen gun. The man accused of wielding the gun and his wife both deny the loaded gun was under the car seat the entire time. Regardless, deputies pointed out stuffing the gun under the car seat was inadequate and the weapon could have been easily accessed by any one of the four children. The alleged victim told deputies he wasn't sure he wants to pursue charges.

Be the adult: A Steubenville area woman told deputies her teenage daughter is out of control, Friday. The girl admitted arguing with her mother because she was supposed to go to her dad's for the weekend and her clothes needed to be washed before she left. She said she hates living with her mother and told deputies she'd like to move in with her grandmother. Deputies spoke with her mother, who said she can't handle her daughter. She said the girl is disrespectful and fights with her all the time, and when she got home Friday complained because her clothes weren't clean. Deputies asked her if the girl could go to her grandmother's for the night but the mother said she has nothing to do with her mother and refuses to let her kids go see her. The mother wanted deputies to take the girl to juvenile detention, and was upset when they told her that wasn't going to happen. They asked her if the girl's behavior was such a problem why she hadn't filed unruly charges, and she told them she "wasn't doing all the paperwork for that." She was then advised to take the girl to her father's because there was nothing else the department could do, at which point they said she "became upset and said, 'That's why I called you guys."

Repeater: An unresponsive male was reported at a Main Street location in Dillonvale Sunday. Dillonvale EMS told deputies they'd administered Narcan but he was still unresponsive, so he was taken to EORH where staff said he would likely be admitted to ICU. His girlfriend said he'd also overdosed a couple weeks ago so she drug-tested him and he tested positive for "a slew of drugs." On Sunday, she said he was walking to a nearby bar for food and returned 10 minutes later saying they were closed, but appeared impaired and collapsed.

Overdose: An unresponsive male was reported Sunday at a location on state Route 152 in Smithfield township, Dillonvale. His father said he'd collapsed about 20 minutes before deputies arrived. Deputies said the man was breathing three or four times a minute with snoring respirations and did have a pulse, so he administered 4 milligrams of Narcan but he showed no change and actually stopped breathing, and his pulse was weak and thready. The officer used a bag valve mask from the medical bag in his cruiser and began assisting the individual with his breathing, while also administering another 4 milligrams of Narcan. After about two minutes the deputy said the man began breathing again on his own and sat up. He denied taking anything and refused further medical treatment.

Gun missing: A Cross Creek Township resident told deputies Sunday a gun was stolen from his home. He said he kept it in a locked cedar chest in his bedroom, along with another firearm. He last saw it about two weeks ago.

Batter up: A caller reported a woman at Two Ridge apartments beating her boyfriend with a bat Sunday. The boyfriend denied any physical violence, telling deputies they were just arguing and he didn't want to give them a statement. His girlfriend told the same story and also refused to give a statement.

Mauled: A Ross Township resident said one of her sheep was mauled while a neighbor was at her home July 12 discussing a property issue with her two dogs in her truck. She said the neighbor told her the dogs were secure in the vehicle, but when they ended their conversation about 40 minutes later and went outside the dogs were no longer in the truck -- one was in the pasture, the other was found behind the barn. She said she noticed an injured sheep so she brought them all in for a head count and found one missing and located it in the pasture. When she and her husband examined its injuries, they determined it was in the suffering animal's best interests to put it down. She needed to file reports for insurance purposes.

Border wars: A Ross Township (Bergholz) resident told deputies Saturday his neighbor is destroying the property line markers he paid a surveyor $500 to set up. He said the neighbor drove his truck through some of them and tried to dig up another. Deputies warned the other man if he keeps moving the markers he could be charged with criminal damaging.

Gun: A caller reported a man at the Rayland golf course Friday waving a small handgun. Deputies responded to the golf course and located a twosome just turning in their car and detained him when he said his name was tha same as the caller indicated, said he had a gun in his golf cart. He denied waving it around, telling deputies he never removed it from his waistband. He said he was approached by a man who he says was attempting to assault him, so he merely pulled up his shirt to show him he was armed but never drew it. He said he's had problems with the man in the past.
