Old enough to know better: Deputies responding to a minor traffic accident had to administer Narcan Sunday to an Irondale man in his 50s who was a passenger in the vehicle. The man, who a family member said had consumed "at least a dozen 12-ounce beers but possibly more, as he had opened another box," got out to check the damage and lost his footing, falling into the grass along the roadside. He was unable to answer questions appropriately and his responses became slower and less understandable, and he was extremely sweaty and pale with pinpoint pupils that didn't react to light and he lost motor functions. Believing he was suffering from an opioid overdose, deputies administered Narcan while they waited for the ambulance and his symptoms reversed. He denied using drugs.
Gramma's had enough: Deputies responded to a disturbance at a residence Sunday in Island Creek Township after a nearly 40-year-old male raised his hand to his grandmother, who was upset that all he does is "sit around all day and does not help her clean or do chores." The argument started when grandma told him he was lazy and continued to the point he "raised his hand in a threatening manner," police were told. His mother and grandmother both said he's never been physically violent in the past nor did the incident actually get physical. The man told deputies he wasn't feeling well, "which contributed to his irritableness." Deputies told him that was no excuse and warned him of the consequences should it happen again. He did apologize to grandma, agreed to do more around the house and be more respectful to the two women.
Sad state: A Jefferson County woman who'd allowed a friend to stay with her after getting out of rehab told deputies he'd started drinking again and needed to go back, Saturday. She said she'd picked him up at rehab about two weeks and he "almost immediately began drinking again." She said she'd tried to get him sober but had been unsuccessful. Deputies told her they couldn't force him to return to rehab, and she told them the man either needed to get help or leave her home. The man declined to seek treatment initially, "despite seeming to believe he did need the treatment." Deputies told him he couldn't stay at his friend's house if he was going to keep drinking and should call someone to pick him up, but he told them "He did not have anywhere to go." He eventually agreed to be transported to Trinity Medical Center West for treatment.
Robbed: An Island Creek Township resident told deputies Friday someone broke into his home while he was away, stealing more than $3,800 in cash that he'd kept in a lockbox, one of his wife's necklaces and two Xbox gaming consoles. Entry was gained by pushing a window air conditioner into a bedroom. The thief also smashed the rear windshield on one of his vehicles. A full inventory of missing items hasn't been completed, deputies said.

Disturbance: Two people were "screaming and cussing" at each other in the 300 block of Woodlawn Road Sunday because a woman was convinced the male had her car key and wouldn't give it back. The man asked police to search him, so police checked his pockets and didn't find it. She told them she thought he hid the keys in his mother's house, but when she searched for it she couldn't find it there. She then contacted her brother, who owns the car, and he came to give her a ride back to her residence. She told police she's afraid the man will vandalize the vehicle, so an officer used his body camera to document the vehicle's current condition. Her brother also told police he doesn't want the man driving his car. Ever.
