Hammer time: Bloomingdale residents reported hearing noises from inside a home where an eviction notice was recently served that sounded like someone was destroying the inside of the property, Saturday. The occupants wouldn't come to the door, but deputies said there was a small sledgehammer on the porch and the concrete was chipped and said it "appeared someone had used the hammer to break pieces off.

Unhappy campers: A Pennsylvania man staying at Austin Lake Campgrounds told deputies he'd been attacked by his estranged wife, Saturday. He told deputies she'd swung "some type of object" at him and struck his hand, causing it to bleed, but he had no idea what it was she swung nor could he describe it. His wife said they'd been arguing earlier, and when she arrived at the campgrounds it started again. She said her husband was intoxicated and during the argument he slammed a cooler closed and then shoved her, and when she yelled at him not to touch her her father, walked over her husband and went back inside his camper. She said he had some sort of cut on his hand because she ended up with blood on her shoulder when he pushed her. Deputies said he reeked of alcohol but admitted having only consumed four ounces of liquor over the course of six hours, but others in the campground said he'd been drinking heavily throughout the day. The two were advised to stay away from each other.]

Sad story: Reports of a male falling off a pontoon boat into Yellow Creek turned out to be a dog, Saturday. The dog's owner, a Stark County resident, said a small poodle jumped off the front of the boat "and they subsequently ran it over and lost sight of it." No one was sure where the dog went after it jumped in, but they were looking for it.

Lock the door: A Toronto man told deputies his ex-girlfriend was threatening to burn his house down, Friday. He said they broke up about a month ago and she moved out, but came back for some of her belongings. Once inside he said she started arguing with him and smacked him in the chest a couple times, and didn't settle down until she found out his grown son had witnessed the attack and was calling 9-1-1. She denied starting the argument, but deputies told her he was pursuing a protection order and didn't want her on his property any more

Fired up: A Rayland man reported a neighbor kid had set a telephone pole outside his house on fire, Monday. The man said he confronted the kid, who put the fire out and ran home. He said the kid told him he had a torch that broke apart and the fire was accidental.

Surprised: A Mingo Junction couple told deputies they were concerned when they found out their home was listed on Realtor.com and Zillow as sold, Friday. They said they'd been receiving letters for someone else about mortgages and didn't think anything of it, until a family member told them she saw online where their home had been sold. They said they checked with the auditor and were reassured the deed was still in their name, and the bank told them the title is still in their name. The other guy's bank told them the mortgage they'd approved was for a different address, and when the information was posted on the online real estate sites there'd been a clerical error and the wrong address was listed.

Thefts: A Dillonvale man discovered $936 in fraudulent Apple charges on his bank statement, Friday. The thefts started Aug. 2 and continued through the month, he told deputies.

Loud: A Toronto man inside an apartment on Maplewood Drive left his car radio blaring, disturbing neighbors, Friday. Deputies said the radio could be heard "a fair distance away." The owner agreed to turn the volume down.

Booked: Jeffrey Turner, 41, 415 Ulbright Road, Newell, failure to appear, Friday.

Steubenville Police

Time to go: A South Sixth Street resident told police she wanted her live-in boyfriend to move out, Saturday. When he refused to go she tried to leave with their child but he would not let her, she said. She said they've been having "relationship complications" so she told him she didn't want to be with him anymore, and he responded with texts saying she "would be dead soon." The man told police he didn't want to leave the residence "due to having nowhere to go." Police told him she was leaving with the child and he'd need a court-ordered custody agreement to prevent further incidents and that she didn't want him contacting her any more.

Parenting needed: A caller reported a group of juveniles who appeared intoxicated throwing items at cars on Mall Drive, Saturday. Police searched the area but the only juveniles they located were not involved.

Surprised: A Westwood Drive resident who purchased a Ruger in November and stuck it in a blue and black zip bag near his workbench told police it's missing, Sunday. He said it could have been accidentally thrown away or sent out with donated household items.

Stuck: A woman teaching her son to drive said he went over a small embankment at Eastern Gateway Community College and their vehicle got stuck, Sunday.

Drugs: A Pittsburgh Street resident said she found an unresponsive female in her bathroom and administered two doses of Narcan, Sunday. She said the woman had knocked on her door and asked to use the restroom. Carrin M. Butler, 42, 124 Comet Ave., Mingo Junction, was booked into the Jefferson County jail on charges of possession of drugs, possession of drug abuse instruments and probation violation, police said. They said two used hypodermic needles were found in her purse, and firefighters said she told them she'd used heroin.

Bad move: A city resident was taken into custody on a handful of charges after he allegedly assaulted the mother of his child, actively fighting officers while handcuffed and trying to kick out the windows of the cruiser, Thursday. Police allege Mitchell also bit an officer. Police said Joseph Mitchell, 28, 180 N. Fourth St., Apt. 410, Steubenville, was charged with domestic violence, assaulting an officer, resisting arrest and criminal damaging, Saturday.
