Jefferson County Sheriff

Scared mom: A Jefferson County mother told deputies she found money in her teenage son's backpack and when she confronted him, he allegedly admitted to selling drugs at school and threatened her if she didn't give the money back to him, Sunday. His mother said she's afraid of him "because he has stated several times he thinks he is just going to 'kill the people around him,'" deputies reported, and said she interprets "people around him" to be his family. She said she's attempted to get the boy help with his mental health and drug use "but has been having a hard time locating a place to get (him) the help he needs." The youth was booked into the juvenile detention center on a domestic violence charge.

Free-for-all: A three-way family fight ended with one person hospitalized with two broken ribs and a punctured lung and no one wanting to pursue charges, Sunday. A teen claimed his father walked into a friend's house and assaulted him for no reason, so he defended himself then walked to his grandmother's house, where he claimed his uncle "began attacking him," so they went "hands-on" and he eventually tossed the older man to get him off, breaking his rib and puncturing his lung. His father said he was in bed when one of his son's friends came to his house and told him his son was "out of control," and said when he got there the youth began yelling and throwing punches. He said he'd never seen his son like that before and believed he was "highly intoxicated from alcohol." When the youth got to her house, his grandmother said the youth ran over to his uncle "and picked him up and threw him across the coffee table."

Victimized: A Mount Pleasant woman helping two octogenarians untangle credit card fraud discovered they'd had four credit cards stolen and nearly $6,500 in fraudulent charges, Saturday. She said they told her they'd noticed a purchase they hadn't made on one of their statements, so she asked them if she could look their paperwork over and realized three of the stolen cards had been used to make large purchases at Best Buy and Wal-Mart stores at the Highlands. Three of the cards were taken from the elderly woman's purse and one from a container in her home, which limits the pool of suspects. Both stores have surveillance footage of the fraudulent transactions.

Friendly folk: Two women on Maplewood Drive had way too much to drink and were yelling at each other, Friday. The woman who called said her neighbor was yelling about the caller being a "crackhead." The caller said the other woman had "left her on the street coming back from the bar." Both were highly intoxicated, deputies said. Both were told to go inside and stop annoying the rest of the neighborhood.

Bad behavior: An Amsterdam woman was worried an argument with her daughter was going to escalate so she asked deputies to intervene, Sunday. The caller said the disagreement stemmed from her grandson's bed time behavior, which her daughter considered defiant and blamed on her. The daughter came to her mother's house to argue and ended up breaking a vase, but her mother didn't want to pursue charges. Deputies said the two were apologetic.

Pointed: A woman who'd been trying to get her belongings back from her ex-girlfriend's residence in Richmond said the ex's grandfather pointed a handgun at her, her sister and a friend, Sept. 7. Deputies had responded to the location earlier when she said the ex refused to give her all her things until she paid her grandmother $100 she allegedly owed her, telling all involved that it would have to be resolved in court. Her sister wanted her to be done with it so she went to the bank and got the money out and gave it the ex's grandma. When they asked for the rest of her belongings, they said the grandfather pulled his gun out and told them to get off his property. They said the ex told her grandfather "you just can't pull a gun on people" and tossed the disputed possessions into the yard.

Park place: A woman parked in front of a residence in the 700 block of North Fifth Street so she could go to church and when she came out, the homeowner had blocked her in, Sunday. She was eventually able to move her car but told police she and the homeowner had argued and he'd been "extremely belligerent" to her, though he denied it. The homeowner was advised the only people who get reserved parking on city streets are those with handicapped stickers.

Reported: A caller reported a woman who didn't live at JFK Apartments was stealing magnets off doors, Sunday. The caller told police she took off after he confronted her, but within minutes police were called because a woman had asked to use a business's restroom and then refused to come out. After confirming it was the same woman, police said she told them she got bored waiting for her friend to answer her phone and denied stealing them. When police searched her, she had no magnets on her.

Troubled: A city resident was booked into the Jefferson County jail on an escape charge, Sunday. Police said Jennifer McCall, 39, 309 Rosemont Ave., Steubenville, is also facing a charge of possession of drugs stemming from the Aug. 26 incident at her home. McCall had been transported to Trinity Medical Center West and placed on a police hold after an alleged overdose, but fled instead. Officers said when they'd arrived at her home that day "it was obvious she was overdosing," and had said Steubenville firefighters/ems administered two doses of nasal Narcan, which had a positive effect on her. They claim McCall had admitted ingesting a green pill and said when they searched her purse they located a baggie containing a green powder that tested positive for fentanyl. She was returned to custody after allegedly overdosing again on Sept. 6, this time in the 300 block of Maxwell Avenue.

Fled: A man driving a silver Dodge Ram nearly caused a collision at the intersection of University Boulevard and Seventh Street when he tried to get away from an officer who was trying to pull him over, Sunday. Police said the man drove down North Seventh Street, then pulled out around traffic stopped at the light at University and Seventh before running through the intersection to the Veterans Bridge on-ramp. Police said the driver accelerated around a semi, "almost losing control in the construction zone." Weirton police were advised to be on the lookout for the man.
