Steubenville Police

Time to go: A city resident was threatened by her live-in boyfriend, Monday. He was already gone from the home when officers arrived. She told them he’d been growing increasingly aggressive toward her during the past few days and it culminated with him grabbing a kitchen knife and lunging at her. As they struggled she said he grabbed her cell phone and tossed it down the steps, then tossed her down them as well. Police said the woman had scratches on her arm and red rub marks on her neck.

Charged: Two people were taken into custody following a traffic stop on Washington Street hill, Monday. Police charged the driver, Christopher Gulan, 50, 1202 county Road 56, Toronto, with possession of drug paraphernalia, and Candice Gampolo, 32, 1445 Maryland Ave., Steubenville, with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drugs and conveyance. Police said when they pulled the car over, there was an open Twisted Tea tallboy in the center console that Gampolo said was hers and said a small, oval pill allegedly fell from Gulan’s lap when he exited the car. Paraphernalia was allegedly found in Gampolo’s backpack, and when she got to the Jefferson County Jail, correctional officers allegedly found multiple pills, marijuana, a crack pipe and a white, powder-like substance in a bag. Gulan also was cited for failing to signal and Gampolo for open container, police said.
