Headed for trouble: School officials told deputies a student who has an on-going problem with truancy missed school again, Monday. The girl's mother said she was sleeping when she left for work, but when her father went to check on her he couldn't find her and thought she'd gone to school. She eventually texted her mother that she was hiding, and eventually emerged from the bathroom closet where she'd been waiting for her father to leave the house. Her parents said they're worried about her behavior, telling deputies they've caught her using a vape, smoking marijuana and sneaking out of the house during the day and night, in addition to skipping school, and said she doesn't follow directions "and will generally not listen to them," deputies said. They said they've tried various methods of punishment but nothing's worked and "they no longer know what to do and have reached the limit of what they can handle," deputies said. The girl told deputies she "simply did not want to go" to school. Unruly charges may be filed against the girl.
Moving on out: A Wintersville man told deputies he wanted his live-in girlfriend removed from his residence, saying she is "mentally unstable (and) threatened to kill him," Monday. He said he met her at a hotel in Columbus when he was working there and brought her to his house when she was going to be thrown out. He claimed she told him "she works for the FBI, is a Marine and … is going to kill him," deputies said, though they also noted he "appeared to be intoxicated and had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage" about him. They said his live-in also "appeared to be severely intoxicated" and also reeked of alcohol, in addition to being difficult to understand do to the "heavy slurring of her speech." She wouldn't tell them what happened, but claimed someone was coming from out-of-state to pick her up. Nobody wanted to file charges, and the boyfriend said she could stay until her ride arrived.
Off-roading: A West Virginia driver who ended up in someone's field in Knox Township told deputies he lost control when he swerved to avoid hitting a squirrel, Monday. The driver said he was only going 20 mph at the time, and said when he ran off the road he hit a large rock in the field which popped his tire. He said he wasn't injured, but hit his head off the steering wheel and complained of head pain. He was able to back his car onto the roadway and change the tire.

Disgruntled ex: An anonymous caller asked police to check on the well-being of individuals in the 1300 block of Oak Grove, claiming he'd overheard them yelling and possibly threats to use a firearm, Tuesday. When they knocked on the door, police said they could hear a small child crying from a bedroom upstairs, but a neighbor told them she hadn't heard any disturbance. The resident eventually appeared and told them "nothing of the sort" had happened, allowing them to check her residence. She said the caller was a male known to her with whom she'd argued when he wanted to come to her residence and she said no, so he retaliated with a false complaint.
Hypersensitive: A Plum Street resident complained her neighbor's cats were "walking too loud and scratching the floor," Tuesday. The neighbor told deputies the woman was "beating on his door and shaking it as if she was trying to get it open," and told police she'd also been playing her music too loudly. They were advised to stay away from each other for the rest of the night.
Vandalized: A Maryland Avenue resident said someone removed paint from numerous slats on his fence and completely removed one, Tuesday.
